Canonical offers a job to an iOS developer

Amazed? … I was the same when I read this news.

Happens that Canonical you are hiring a developer to iOS, as it says in the job offer...

We are looking for a developer to help us build applications for the iOS platform. Our ideal candidate would have already written and delivered mobile apps and is passionate about their work. You will be "the iOS person" in a Linux-oriented company, will need to

be self-sufficient, comfortable with distributed working environments and able to take on the challenges in your platform wisely. You could either be a strong native developer (Objective-C) or have extensive experience with developing web mobile applications using frameworks like PhoneGap or Titanium Appcelerator.

Whose translation of the first paragraph (without wanting to be so literal) would be:

We are looking for a developer who builds applications for the iOS platform. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has already developed some applications, and is passionate about their work. You can be the "iOS person" that a Linux-oriented company needs.

You can read the rest of the requirements (contract details) on the official page of the job offer: Working at Canonical (iOS person)

But basically, they are looking for someone with experience in development for iOS (1 year or more of experience in Objective-C), experience in JS y CSS, willing to take trips for short periods of time (a week or two, maybe a little longer) for development meetings or development marathons, fluent in English (enough to answer emails, participate in IRC, etc.), you develop respecting the standards and you understand the importance of this, and more 🙂

What do you think this means? ...

I see it very clearly, Canonical wants to start sneaking into the market for Apple products, that's why it hires an iOS developer (You don't have to be a scholar to figure this out, right? haha). The detail is ... specifically what and how will you do it?

  • Perhaps allowing Ubuntu to install as an application on iOS like you can do it today on Windows?
  • Maybe improving applications for Ubuntu One on Apple products?

We'll see, as always ... the news of this CIA flies, possibly in the coming months there will be more news 😀

regards

Ubuntu One was exactly what I was going to answer… I think Ubuntu is preparing something great for Ubuntu One.

that is good! .. the mobile web is growing every day more .. and free software wants to penetrate these paths 😉

This is clear, to monopolize more, to be able to close the system and sell it for € 300 like Windows.

Now they not only steal ideas, but they want to take workers away from other companies.

the day canonical occurs to put a price on ubuntu .. that day ubuntu dies and disappears from the plane of free software, disappears from the linux world and disappears for users…. the only salvation would be linux mint but I don't think it will last long since without ubuntu linux mint cannot live ... unless it follows debian and not ubuntu.

Courage I think that what they want is to put their system in the world of smartphones and tablests and programming on the mobile web and things like that 😉

        They want to get everything.

But also as a company it wants money, although they could be a company without violating the principles of GNU / Linux and without making a shitty system.

Maybe they need help to adapt Unity to mobile, as they said they wanted to do, and consider that Objective-C is a good platform to work with. Also, if it is someone with experience in iOS better, because they already know how to work / design in a mobile interface.
The Ubuntu One thing seems possible too, and it is one of their means of income, but I don't think they bet on that service so strongly yet ... Or do they? : S
