Invitation to the VII Guatemalan Congress of Free Software CGSOL

In recent years the Free software It has reached different parts of the world, the country where I am from, Guatemala, has not been the exception. Communities and user groups have emerged that join forces to promote free culture, show its benefits and bring technology to the entire country.

What is the CGSOL?

In 2007 in the Department of Quetzaltenango (to which I belong), as an initiative of the Xela Linux User Group -XELALUG-, participation of other communities and support of companies that believe in opensource technologies and free software, the first Guatemalan Congress of Free Software CGSOL.

One of the main objectives is to spread the philosophy of Free Software and Free Culture, narrowing the technological knowledge gap in the interior of our country, all this at no cost so that everyone can have access to it.

Thus, for 6 years this event has been held in different cities of the country coordinated by different user communities. Counting since 2008 with the participation of representatives from various countries.

This year its seventh edition will be held in the city of quetzaltenang and taking advantage of the scope of DesdeLinuxWe extend a cordial invitation to all readers in Guatemala and anywhere so that they can join us and share this November 14, 15 and 16 the different activities that are planned. For more information about hotels, transportation, agenda, etc. you can visit the official page of the event.

Very good, but they should also do 1 in the Capital in the Intecap of Z.5, as does FLISOL since many people are interested in the subject of Free Software.

The truth is very good, that someone in Guatemala is interested in free software, I am a fan of going to FLISOL year after year and although the topics are to inform about the most basic of free software, I think it is a good start and I am going to share and support, I congratulate your team for informing Guatemala that there are other options, Greetings

I am glad that this type of event takes place in Guatemala. I am Guatemalan, I currently live in Chicago. For many years I have been using free software and trying to promote it. In Guatemala I have a nephew who is currently studying "Systems Engineering" at the Mariano Galvez University and when I told him about free software he had no idea what I was talking about. I sent him a laptop with Linux and the first thing he did was see how he installed Windows. He told me that at the "Mariano Galvez" University they only taught Windows. I was very sad to hear that.

I tell you my friend that it is actually quite true that they only teach how to use proprietary software at the Mariano Galvez university, I am currently a student of it and being a staunch defender of free software, I always present my programs to run on both platforms, Although I understand that they are already including a class on free software, since as we well know this is rebounding in most servers in the world, I hope this is the first step of many, Greetings
