DragonFly belongs to the same class of operating systems as other BSD and Linux-derived systems. It is based on the same ideals and APIs as UNIX and shares predecessor code with other BSD operating systems. DragonFly offers the opportunity for the BSD foundation to grow in a completely different direction than that taken by the FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD series. DragonFly includes numerous useful features that set it apart from other operating systems in its class. Free Software – Summary of the FSD meeting of May 16, 2025
In this interesting and last meeting New approved programs have been accepted with license verification, for example, Anubis_captcha (a software tool that aims to evaluate incoming HTTP requests using proof-of-work to stop AI trackers) and Gnome_calls (a phone call and VoIP – SIP call handler). In addition, the list of programs has been updated with version updates or minor edits, such as GNU grep (A tool for finding text within files), GNU Diffutils (Software that finds differences between files), and GNU gperf (A useful hash function generator application).
Every week, free software activists from around the world gather at #fsf in Libera.Chat to help improve the FSD , a catalog of useful free software that runs on GNU-like free systems (not limited to the GNU operating system and its GNU/Linux variants) and a project of the Free Software Foundation (FSF). Open Source – A new project highlights the Open Source Initiative and Apereo Foundation's response to the White House on AI.
EThe commentary of the OSI Foundation together with the Apereo Foundation, I include the following contributions: Promote the development and adoption of open-source AI, Establish a common definition of open-source AI, and Promote a common data approach to AI development. Meanwhile, third-party comments highlight key contributions such as: Increase the Mozilla Foundation's use of open-source AI; Provide more government support for open-source AI development; Allocate more public computing resources for open-source AI development; and Preserve and promote open model development, open innovation as a strategic advantage, and greater and more effective transparency in the acquisition, development, and use of AI.
The Institute for Progress (IFP), an independent U.S. think tank focused on innovation policy, announced a new project highlighting responses to the Trump administration's request for public comment on what should be included in a national "AI Action Plan." The OSI comment with the Apereo Foundation was one of 33 comments highlighted in an initial release of the IFP database. Last week, the White House made all 10.068 comments public, and the IFP updated its database with an analysis of all submissions. Read more on the OSI Blog

GNU/Linux + BSD: Release of PorteuX 2.1
These first days of May, we have learned of the launch of the new update of the free and open operating system project PorteuX, under the number of 2.1, according to him official announcement from its developers.
