Free Software – The FSF is now on Bluesky: Here's how and why we did it.
The FSF website regularly keeps us informed about current issues, news, and important events. This month, they've shared the following interesting news: " The FSF now has a profile on the Bluesky social network ." Furthermore, they explain that they joined because: "We need to keep reaching people where they are. Bluesky is a good option for us, as it avoids many of the problems of other, more problematic networks. Without reaching those who don't yet know us, we unfortunately have very little chance of achieving our mission and educating new people about the philosophy of free software. Therefore, for now, we've agreed to use Bluesky's non-free JavaScript just once, if it means reaching more people who have never heard of software freedom."

Open Source – ReactOS 0.4.16 offers the nostalgia of 90s Windows with fewer bugs.
The digital blog of the media outlet "El Registro" informed us at the beginning of this month, in a brilliant and timely post, about the following great and timely news: " ReactOS 0.4.16 offers the nostalgia of 90s Windows with fewer bugs . " And in the same post, among many other pieces of information, they mention the following: ReactOS 0.4.16 was announced this past weekend after a year and a half of development, and its list of improvements is considerable. More specifically, its developers, in their release notes, detailed that they have now added "a unified bootcd and livecd image; improvements to the video, audio, networking, and storage stack; a new type of installation; and third-party code synchronization." Finally, among many other pieces of information, the project now includes a new type of installation for ReactOS Server Core without a graphical interface, which loads a complete Win32 subsystem without the GUI, similar to Windows Server Core that Microsoft released with Windows Server 2008. And finally , the ReactOS team has abandoned compatibility restrictions with Windows Server 2003, meaning that its fork of Wine, designed to interact with Windows-like kernels, is no longer limited to Wine 2.x and 3.x, the last version of which was released in 2018.
If you long for the days when Windows ran smoothly with 64MB of RAM, there's a new version of ReactOS, an open-source NT clone that promises easier installation and fewer bugs. For those unfamiliar with the ReactOS project, it's a long-standing initiative (starting in 1996) to create an open-source equivalent of Windows NT, with the goal of running Windows applications and drivers.
GNU/Linux + BSD: Vendefoul Wolf Viriato ALPHA-20260831_2208 Release with TrinityDE (Testing)
In early September, we learned of the release of a new update to the free and open-source operating system project Vendefoul Wolf , version number ALPHA-20260831_2208 . According to the official release announcement on the project's X profile, some of the notable new features include: a Linux kernel 7.2.2, the TrinityDE 14.2.0 desktop environment, and XLibre 1.6 plus OpenRC. In addition, all the usual tools have been updated, along with some new ones such as: AM-GUI (a desktop application store client for easily installing, updating, and managing AppImages and other portable formats on Linux), TMOG (an innovative and modern cross-platform Task Manager that brings the advanced functionality of a professional system console to a native task manager), and ZapZap (a useful desktop client via Flatpak that provides a dedicated desktop window for WhatsApp Web on Linux, with system tray integration, notifications, and multi-account support). Finally, it is worth noting that they also recently updated their development version with the SonicDE 6.7.2 desktop environment.

Vendefoul Wolf is a GNU/Linux distribution based on Devuan and of Spanish origin. It offers a lightweight and fast operating system with the SysV init system, OpenRC, and Runit (interchangeable) instead of Systemd. Its main features include the LibreWolf web browser, the Calamares system installer, an application store, and its own software package repository . In addition to the main edition, Vendefoul Wolf also offers several community-developed variants with alternative desktop environments and window managers, such as Cinnamon, Enlightenment, JWM, MATE, and XFCE . Consequently, it's a distribution ready to work right out of the box (printer, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.) with reasonable resource consumption. While it lacks telemetry and integrated artificial intelligence, it includes a selection of software to allow you to work from the very first moment in a user-friendly environment upon starting your computer.
