Free Software – Free Software Board Meeting on IRC this Friday, October 4th
The FSF invites us to join them, This Friday, October 4th from 12:00 to 15:00 EDT (16:00 to 19:00 UTC) for help improve the Free Software Directory. Which is a great catalog of useful free software that works on free systems similar to GNU and a project of the Free Software Foundation (FSF), in order to improve it by adding new entries and updating existing ones.
Tens of thousands of people visit the Free Software Directory website (directory.fsf.org) each month to discover free software. Directory entries can contain a wealth of useful information, from basic categories and descriptions to detailed version control information, IRC channels, documentation, and licensing information that has been carefully reviewed by FSF staff and trained volunteers. When a user visits the Directory, they know that everything in the Directory is free software, has only free dependencies, and runs on a free operating system. Open Source – A journey towards defining open source AI: Presentation at the “Open Source Summit Europe”
In the recently completed "Open Source Summit Europe 2024", which was an event organized by the Linux Foundation that brought together brilliant developers, technologists and leaders from around the world with the aim of reinforcing what Open Source really is (Collaboration, Innovation and Community), an important milestone was given for both the Open Source Initiative (OSI) as well as the community at large. For it encapsulated years of collaboration, learning and exploration.
And this happened when OSI gave its talk called “The Open Source AI Definition is (Almost) Ready”, which was more than just a talk, it was a useful interactive dialogue. And in it, the OSI told about its experience attempt to call AI systems, models and weights “open source”, at a time when companies and even regulations are using the term without a clear, agreed-upon definition.
One of the key questions we faced was: what is the preferred way to make modifications in AI? In traditional software, this might be the source code. But in AI, it’s not that simple. We realized that the “weights” of machine learning models—those parameters tuned by the data—are crucial. However, the data itself doesn’t fit neatly into the open source framework. GNU/Linux: Live Raizo 15.24.10.01i released
These first days of October, we have learned of the launch of the New update to the free and open source Linux Root operating system project, under the number of version 15.24.10.01i. And among its most notable new features (changes, corrections, improvements and additions) of said release are the following 4:
- Updating faulty Debian drivers.
- Addition of a menu to reload the desktop: Settings / Reload desktops.
- Support for project backup compatibility from version 15.24.09.08i.
- The availability of 2 ISO: Version I of 2,24 GB and version P of 1,79 GB.
Live Raizo is a GNU/Linux distribution project that offers an operating system The GNS12 is a live Linux distribution based on Debian 3 (Bookworm) that can also be installed, and is specifically designed for experimenting with system administration on simulated networks and real devices. It uses the GNSXNUMX software, which serves as a graphical user interface for manipulating network and system simulators/emulators such as QEmu, Docker, and Dynamips. Additionally, with it, users can run and clone virtual Linux machine templates that contain many networking tools and services.
