SolusOS 1.3 released

The Team SolusOS pleased to announce the launch of Solus OS Eveline 1.3. This is strictly a maintenance release, and includes basic system tweaks and updates that are not present in version 1.2. This version is available in the following architectures: x86, x86 with PAE and amd64.

What's New?

Between version 1.2 and this release, there have been more than 300MB of package updates. This ISO is fully up to date and includes:

  • Firefox 18.0.2 (19.0 will be provided when released) «And it is already available on Mozilla's FTP.
  • Thunderbird 17.0
  • Linux Kernel 3.3.6
  • GNOME 2.30
  • sudo 1.8.5
  • UFW 0,31
  • SolusCC 1,3

The GConf defaults have been totally overhauled, and the duplicate of Cardapio has been removed. Firefox is now the default web browser, the + DPMS screen saver block has been disabled by default.

The parameter "vga = 792" has been removed from the boot line, avoiding problems for nvidia users. The artwork was revamped a bit, giving Eveline a cleaner look.

No kernel update

We have investigated the possibility of including a kernel update in this release, but it caused many more problems than it solves. Being a stable version we cannot try to introduce anything that could cause problems in the system.

The future

Now we are moving all our development focus to Solus OS 2. As most will know, debian-squeeze it will soon become "the old stable." We will continue to support SolusOS Eveline even the old stable no longer receives support. However, this will be general maintenance. We now have to focus all our efforts on preparing Solus OS 2, and welcome to the family.

SolusCC and the First Run Wizard

We have officially removed the FirstRunWizard, a tool that provided its first configuration of the system components as it was a fairly simple tool and very error-prone.

Now, users can find in the SolusOS Control Center configuration utilities for common sound problems with PulseAudio, an update manager, and an installer for new drivers.

If the system is able to work well with the proprietary drivers nvidia and fglrx (AMD), the option will be present in Settings -> Drivers. Please do not close the tool until the progress bar indicates "Controller Configuration Complete". You can also use this tool to remove proprietary drivers from your system.

It's hard for me to get Debian, I'm afraid to continue with SolusOS when they switch to another distro that I don't know, well, we'll see, for the moment I like it 🙂

I imagine that many people did not fit in with gnome3, but staying in gnome 2 all the life does not seem like a good idea (I speak in my own tastes) I think that we have Xfce 4,10 for that, which is great is current.

    regards

This distro never really caught my attention. I hope they continue their good development, I'm sure many like it.

I'm not a fan of debs, but it would have been better if they used kernel 3.2.x

It's been about six months since I started linux. first fedora 17, zorin, linux mint 14 and now solusOs.

As I read in a post, the good thing about linux is that one has so many distro to try and not get bored.

I do it to learn a little, curiosity, etc.

I am not an IT expert but in SolusOs I observed that there are words that do not translate well. The VLC player could not update it to version 2.0.5 the one it has is in 2.0.3 it does not matter. Likewise, the SMPLAYER has a version 0.6.9 and the most recent one is 0.8.3, which does not have to download YouTube videos. but it solves it with the minitube.

Mozilla firefox was updated to the latest version 19.0 but in English.

Not yet investigated how to convert it to Spanish. the bad thing to say so what we use linux that we want to be updated, and perhaps that is why I suggest the versions of vlc, smplayer,

I think it could be solved if it is installed by downloading the file from the official websites of these players, although it comes in tar., gz, bz2 format that I have not yet been able to install from there. when I step make, make install gets error.

But otherwise soluos is fine. I like the desktop since I still want to have something similar to windows, that's why I also like linux mint 14 with matte desktop.

ah! I felt it faster than fedora, I think it consumes less ram memory, I have not seen when it consumes this desktop.

I am surprised how I have learned a little about linux, now I know that the rpm command in fedora I cannot use it in linux mint, nor solusOs, now I know that it is apt-get

but I still have a lot to google. although there are distros there is a lot of information on the internet.

Even here in my country Nicaragua there is even a group called fedora Nicaragua, another from ubuntu, debian. And in the case of fedora they are even organizing classes or trainings on weekends on how to use a fedora, what can be done with a fedora, how to use letters, spreadsheets, chat, etc.

    Well is my modest comment.

Well it is my modest comment on my experience with linux to date.

I will prove it, I already have the previous versions. But I look forward to solusOS2. But I follow the project day by day. And I suppose many will follow as well. Greetings to all the enthusiasts of this project.

Hello friends, as I have mentioned before, I just hope that solus acquires a specific development path since it varies a lot in the graphical environment makes us who think to leave it as the main OS in our team hesitate. I know that evolution is necessary, but also a very specific line for a certain reasonable time would give us more confidence. I hope that this clear directional stability is solus2 which I also hope. I am not complaining about solus eveline is very good. But users need to be sure of the trajectory of the project. I applaud the experimentation with new proposals but also the establishment of a definitive and clear direction. Regards.
