If you are a user of Debian 7 and you have problems with the audio on the motherboard Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 or similar this is the solution.
This is valid for chipsets:
- Intel Corporation 6 Series / C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)
- Intel 7 Series / C210 Series Family High Definition Audio Controller
If you want to see other models and possible configurations, you can access this link in the SolydXK forum.
We open a terminal and put:
sudo apt-get install alsa-base alsa-tools alsa-utils
Then later we edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and replace what it says:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
by
options snd-hda-intel model=generic
We restart and that's it.

Because of these kinds of problems, Linux is not yet ready as an operating system for the desktop.
Do you believe?
I think it's more of a pre-installed equipment issue. Windows usually comes pre-installed with all the hardware configured and supported on the computers that are sold. You can do the same with Linux, but the market penetration is much lower, it usually happens that you buy a computer with Windows preinstalled without checking if the hardware will give you problems with Linux and what happens happens.
If you buy PCs without Windows pre-installed without looking at compatibility, you would see the same problems and not easier to solve.
Exactly, when I was working for a while in a store they brought us a computer that they had bought without an OS installed that W7 had installed and the bluetooth did not work. And if I remember correctly, there was no way to install the drivers.
If even intel, which in theory releases the source code, gives problems, shut down and let's go. But in any case, hardware failures also affect windows in many cases and the solutions either do not exist or are even more complex.
In Windows, if the generic drivers of the Driver pack solution do not work, you are forced to download the drivers from Intel itself and / or from the mainboard manufacturer's page.
I couldn't install windows 2005 on a pc from 8, because the audio driver is for windows vista and in 8, it doesn't seem to make annoying noises .., this doesn't happen in linux.
Obviously, Windows Vista drivers are used because until Windows 8.1 it uses the NT 6 kernel.
nothing has to do with the kernel, direct audio has some important changes, which makes the windows vista drivers not work well, at least they must be windows 7 ..
It had to be Microsoft.
Anyway, for that and many other reasons, I am against Windows 8 (and 7 too, although this is not my computer).
I have the same opinion. I know that everything can be solved by doing a little research, but for users who just want to use an operating system without having to fix x or y if it is something annoying. I know all OS They have flaws or details, but domestic users only want to use the equipment and now hehehehe, for those of us who like to fix a fault it is very good hahaha but not everyone thinks the same.
Hey guys .. why don't you see it this way?
They have Windows. They replace your motherboard. If they don't have the drivers, it is very possible that they can't have sound. What can they do? Nothing.
They have Windows. They replace your motherboard. The sound works, doesn't it? They modify a file. They still have audio
You wanted to say:
haha nothing has to do with Linux, for they buy gigabyte it was clear, he said gigabyte use windows OS, for their hardware to serve them, that simple, the one that buys without inquiring, sorry there are the problems, I put a link so that they know :

They are not worth spending a penny on them.
Greetings!.
Bitch please!
That has nothing to do with the problem @Elav is talking about. Also, the real problem would be if it came with secure boot, which would be a real problem to solve.
Now, what the article indicates is a mere solution for the configuration error of the Intel Debian drivers when installing on Gigabyte mainboards. It would have been a headache if it had been a Foxconn mainboard.
It shows that you did not understand what I meant, Gigabyte has already had problems and has a resounding no of not supporting Linux, it is better not to buy it. The Link I put is to see how they think about users who use Linux, they simply tell you, use windows. By the way, to be a copywriter, more respect no matter how much a header phrase is.
Greetings!.
The same thing happened to me on a Gigabyte board other than this one, I solved it by deleting pulseaudio and compiling the alsa drivers. The steps were these -> http://kikefree.wordpress.com/2013/08/03/solucionar-problema-de-sonido-en-debian-7-wheezy/
