Fedora 32 beta version has already been released and these are its changes

Fedora Guys recently released the beta release of Fedora 32, With which a transition to the final testing stage is marked, in which only critical errors are allowed. The release of the stable version is scheduled to be released at the end of April.

Among the most notable changes in this released beta version of Fedora 32, it is mentioned that in builds for workstations, the background process"Earlyoom" to respond early to out of memory in the system.

If the amount of available memory is less than the specified value, then depending on the size of the memory left Sigterm will be shipped (free memory less than 10%) or Sigkill (<5%) than by force the process that consumes the most memory will end.

Another major change is in the systemd timer default which is  "Fstrim.timer", which starts the fstrim.service service once a week to run the command "/ usr / sbin / fstrim –fstab –verbose –quiet", which transmits information about unused blocks in file systems mounted to dynamically expandable LVM repositories and storage devices.

This mechanism smooths wear and tear on SSDs and NVMe drives and increases the efficiency of block cleaning, and also in LVM improves the use of free logical extents by dynamically allocating storage space ("thin provisioning") back to the pool;

On the part of the desktop environment, we can find the new version of Gnome 3.36, in which a separate application has appeared to manage plugins for Gnome Shell, in addition to the design of the login and screen unlock interfaces has been modernized, most of the system dialogs have been redesigned, the function of launching applications using a discrete GPU on systems with hybrid graphics.

In overview mode, the ability to rename directories with applications is implemented, the 'do not disturb' button is added to the notification system, the enable option is added to the initial setup wizard Parental control systems, and so on.

Regarding the termination of the useful life of the Python 2 from Fedora will be removed python2 package and all packages that require Python 2 for its operation or assembly. For developers and users who need Python 2, a separate python27 package will be provided which will be designed in an all-in-one style (no sub-packages) and is not intended to be used as a dependency.

By default, the iptables-nft package is used instead of iptables-legacy. It offers a set of utilities to ensure compatibility with iptables that have the same command line syntax but translate the resulting rules into nf_tables bytecode;

The build uses GCC 10, Plus, updated versions of many packages are included, including Glibc 2.31, Binutils 2.33, LLVM 10-rc, Python 3.8, Ruby 2.7, Go 1.14, MariaDB 10.4, Mono 6.6, PostgreSQL 12, PHP 7.4.

Of the other changes that stand out:

  • A code has been added to package manager DNF to send the necessary information for a more accurate assessment of the distribution's user base.
  • Instead of the originally planned transmission of a unique UUID, a simpler scheme based on the installation time counter and a variable with data on the architecture and version of the operating system was implemented.
  • The "countme" counter will be reset to "0" after the first successful server call and after 7 days it will start to increase every week, allowing you to assess how long the version used has been installed. If desired, the user can disable the sending of this information.
  • In the Python interpreter it is compiled with the "-fno-semantic-interposition" option, the use of which in testing showed a performance increase from 5% to 27%;

    I tried that beta version. The problem is that it hangs, both with my IBM X3650 m3 and my Dell T3600. Sometimes it works fine and everything freezes, sometimes that happens as soon as you log in.
