The new version of KDE Plasma 5.16 has just been released, created with the KDE Frameworks 5 platform and the Qt 5 library with OpenGL / OpenGL ES. Where in this new version of KDE Plasma there are new improvements to the environment.

What's new in KDE Plasma 5.16

With the release of this new version we can highlight that The management of the desktop, graphic material and widgets has been improved.

Such is the case of the notification system which was completely rewritten. Do not disturb mode has been added to temporarily disable notifications, improved grouping of records in notifications reception history, as long as critical notifications can be displayed when applications are running in full screen mode, information about file copy and move completion, notification settings section in configurator has been expanded.

Improved widget configuration interface

In the widget to determine the color of arbitrary pixels on the screen added support for moving colors in text editors and graphical editors palettes.

In the window with the desktop background settings, in the slideshow mode, the images of the selected directories are displayed with the ability to control their marking.

The context menu has been redesigned in the task manager and added support for quickly moving the window from any virtual desktop to the current one by clicking the middle mouse button.

In the Breeze theme for window shadows and menus, the use of black is returned, improving the visibility of many elements when using dark color schemes.

Another important change in KDE Plasma 5.16 is implementing initial support for a Wayland-based session when using proprietary NVIDIA drivers.

Systems with a proprietary NVIDIA driver running Qt 5.13 also have issues with graphics distortion after returning from sleep mode.

In a session based on Wayland, it has appeared by dragging and dropping application windows using XWayland and Wayland.
