The tool to clone your hard drives Clonezilla 2.5.5-38 Stable is now available

Clonezilla

Clonezilla is a software similar to Norton Ghost which, unlike this Clonezilla it's totally free and open source then is based on a number of open source projects, such as Partition Image. It has two versions: the live image and another that is the server edition.

For those who still do not know Clonezilla I will tell you that used for cloning disks and partitions, with which we have the ability to support our entire system in a simple and effective way.

The version of Clonezilla live is suitable for single machine backup and restore.

While Clonezilla Server Edition (I KNOW) is designed for mass deployment, it can clone more than 40 computers simultaneously. Clonezilla saves and restores only used blocks on the hard drive, this increases the efficiency of cloning.

Clonezilla supports many types of file systems, so it is suitable for cloning MacOS, Windows, Linux and other systems.

Clonezilla main features

  • The Supported file systems are as follows: ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs of GNU / Linux, FAT, NTFS of MS Windows, HFS + of Mac OS, UFS of FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD and VMFS of VMWare ESX.
  • Multicast support, which is very useful when cloning systems in bulk.
  • You can rely on Partclone (default), Partimage (optional), ntfsclone (optional), or dd to create the image or clone a partition. However, it is also possible to clone entire disks and not just separate partitions.
  • Using drbl-winroll it is possible to automatically change the server name, group and SID of the cloned Win system.

New version of Clonezilla available

Steven Shiau has unveiled the new launch of Clonezilla reaching its version Live 2.5.5-38 which now takes as a basis the repository debian-sid Updated March 30, 2018.

Clonezilla

Within of the changes we find in this new version of Clonezilla Steven shiau I comment the following:

Add a workaround to make the dnsmasq relay job work for uEFI network boot clients. that is, we have to assign the IP address of the tftp server in the bootloader of the grub network. This is only necessary when dnsmasq is used to relay the DHCP request from clients to the existing DHCP service.

I also know the following elements stand out:

  • El Linux kernel has been updated to version 4.15.11.
  • PartClone has been updated to 0.3.11 with some libraries also updated.
  • The new image format is used in this version, and is different from that saved by Partclone 0.2.x.
  • A new BitTorrent bulk deployment mechanism has been added.
  • Clonezilla has to convert the original image to the special format when using BitTorrent mode and this will require more disk space in the image repository.
  • You can change the console prompt-date setting method for keyboard settings.
  • Added the ocs_netlink_timeout startup parameter so that the network link detection timeout can be assigned for ocs-live-netcfg.
  • There is a new -cbm option to ocs-live-feed-img. Also, the ocs_litesrv_mode startup parameter was removed. Better to assign that in command line option (-dm) when running ocs-live-feed-img, for example ocs-live-feed-img -cbm netboot -dm autodetect -g auto -e1 auto -e2 -R -x -j2 -sc0 -p restart -md multicast –clients-to-wait 1 –max-time-to-wait 300 start myimg sda.
