We have much to do

Hello Community !!

First of all, I want to thank you on behalf of the DesdeLinux to all users who have seen favorably the merger of our blog and that of Use Linux and they have given us very positive comments and of course their suggestions.

We have much to do. Although we always try to make the changes once the blog is put back online, to work as they should, it may be the case that something goes wrong or is incomplete.

For now, we have to finish the migration of all articles from Let's use Linux, which also have to add some small details to adapt to the new design. For now this seems to me to be the most critical.

We have to do an almost titanic job to correct all the links on the pages and posts that link to Let's use Linux en Blogger, as well as update the section About Us, but this will be done little by little. We count on them to understand the situation and give us patience.

Regarding the design, well, there is also a lot to do and adjust. It would be very good if they offered us their feedbacks and that if something goes or looks wrong, they would take a screenshot and upload it somewhere to see what happens. In all the tests we did locally, everything worked fine, and even at various resolutions.

FAQ

What will happen to social networks? DesdeLinux?

From this moment on, the "Official" social networks of DesdeLinux, will be those of Let's use Linux, which have a greater number of users and therefore this benefits us.

Will this merger change the community spirit that the blog has always had?

NO. DesdeLinux It is still open to anyone who wants to collaborate, although it is possible that some changes will be made with respect to the ranks and privileges of some users who are no longer with us, but who will always be welcome.

I have problems with the design, what should I do?

It would be very helpful if you have a problem, take a screenshot, upload it to the Internet and provide us with some information such as screen resolution, browser version ... etc.

The design seems very good to me, there is only one thing that maybe they should change, the image of my user next to the name of the poster, I think I shouldn't go there, it's just my opinion, otherwise I think it's great, the penguin is excellent to go at the top of the page 😀

I like the design. A little "subway";). No, seriously, I like it. See when you unlock the main page.

Jojojo. It is unlocked, only that the blog cache does not let you see .. Give it a Ctrl + F5 in Firefox to see what happens ..

A tiny suggestion: could you make logo.png link back to the main page? I know it would be redundant with "Start" but in most places it is like this

      Done, added the link 😉

We are already on it 😛

No, it just happened to us .. Man, I am one and between the new issue, the mortgage, the children, the job, the food, the water, the current payment, my girlfriend, the dog, the hamster, fish, cleaning, ironing, cooking, scrubbing ... well I missed ..

        xDDD

BTW, the new design is great! This is one of the few sites that with each redesign become prettier rather than disgraceful. 🙂

But, as I always find a but for everything (😀), HATE multi-column designs; although it seems to be the trend, so anyway. So in the next redesign they don't do it like a pinboard, because I took the first plane to Cuba and I savagely murdered them. 😉

    1.    elav said

Well, go preparing the weapons and the passage, because the next design will not have a sidebar and everything will be in columns. MUAJAJA

very good the new blog design

  13.   cat said

By way of criticism / suggestion, the main page has a lot of empty spaces which makes it look rather ugly, they should take advantage of them or remove them. In the pages of the posts they do not take much advantage of the lateral space but everything else looks good.

    1.    cat said

by the way, the mobile view although it improved, it is very slow (even slower than the site)

      1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Maybe it is because many things are being loaded that there is no need, we have to check to see what divs we hide for mobile 🙂

        Thanks for the feedback

This cute little penguin down there and to the right to go to the beginning. I even like the new logo better than the old one. Looks great.
The only thing that I see strange is that with this new home with the posts style little cards the highlighted images of the articles are deformed:

    http://i.imgur.com/U7LAE7q.png

It looks rough. And with so much post that they have with other types of images that are not of the same aspect ratio, they will suffer a while more accommodating that or they will end up leaving it like that.
    Anyway, good luck with everything.

    1.    eliotime3000 said

I agree with that aspect. What's more, in Chromium / Chrome for Linux, it looks worse (as if they are using 4: 3 resolution on a 16: 9 screen).

    2.    elav said

Unfortunately we still have to look for a better option to generate the thumbnails of the featured images. We are working on it, thanks for passing you Gabriela.

    3.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Yes, accommodating images is going to be a pain in the ass ... but, the end result (this theme is 50% of where we want to go) will undoubtedly be very, VERY attractive, I guarantee it 😉

      Thanks for stopping by ^ - ^

As a suggestion, it would be nice if the part where the logo (<º) is to scroll along with the page, so it is at hand at all times. (Is it understood?) XD
Congratulations and keep it up, it's great what you do!

My feeling when seeing the design is that it is more adapted for 4: 3 than for 16: 9, let's see if you can do something that looks somewhat ugly on 1080p screens: /

    1.    elav said

Tell me if you see it better now in that resolution ..

  24.   manolox said

To change the internal links from “Let's use Linux” to “Desdelinux» A couple of things come to mind, although Manuel de la Fuente's suggestion may be enough.

1 - If you only change the domain and not the rest of the URL, it would be enough to download the content to export and edit it in a text before uploading it to the new blog. "Thirst -i…."
I used this form with success when I had the unhappy idea to change the way posts URL is created (from format with date + number to URL with title name). And I say unhappy because I fixed the links in a piss, but google doesn't seem to like the idea that their indexed URLs were suddenly different.

2 -Another option that is more tedious, but useful for all «lost links» would be the «Broken Link Checker» plugin which detects all the broken links and allows you to edit them one by one but without editing the respective entries (only the links).

Excellent, when I read the news in Let's Use Linux it seemed very interesting to me and yesterday I couldn't enter here because they were working on the page (which by the way was spectacular), I think that of these two blogs is a very good fusion ( I just have one less blog to read when I'm at the office hahaha)

Good luck with your new journey 🙂

    1.    elav said

I don't understand .. Why one less blog? On the contrary, you will continue reading Pablo, but in this blog. I mean, basically the only thing you lose is a url 😉

On the other hand, I hope that together with these improvements .. the 'recommended posts' will be updated .. ..and that there will also be a facelift for our forum ..

Finally, welcome to the family to all the users of Let's use Linux .. .. hope that together we will make this community .. the best .. 😉

Yes, send me screenshots so I can work better.

About the facelift of the forum ... it is something we have wanted to do for a long time but, making templates for that system (they are with tpl and things like that) is complex 🙁

Of course, if I am going to read it in this blog, only that the custom is:

    - Check the blogs that I normally read, in the office
    - And the very interesting news I read well at home

What happens now is just a feeling that I am going to have one less blog to read, although I know that I am going to read Pablo here !!!!
Sorry if I don't explain it well

For the rest, this fusion seems excellent 🙂

I applaud the enthusiasm of the entire blog team to improve and always keep abreast of new linux trends. The comment is to report that on my netbook the site does not look good when loading the main address, only a vertical line of articles is seen, when I reduce the resolution of the browser to 65%, the two columns of post appear fine. As I said, it is just a comment and I hope this case does not happen to other users.

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

      What resolution do you use?

      Thanks for the feedback

    2.    D Guillen said

Hi, well I use the resolution I use is 1024 × 600 on a hp netbook. In the case of independent articles, things are going well. I have been checking the site in the Firefox browser and things are going great. I think that in Chrome it does not look good until I reduce it to 65%

  42.   cronos said

To make you want that the work has just begun.

  43.   Mika_Seido said

I love the new logo, I swear I didn't understand the <° before, I thought it was some kind of abbreviation for advanced users XD. I like very much.

The penguin to go back to the beginning is adorable, but like Saphire I think it does not go with the style of the new theme.

    Keep it up 😉

    1.    eliotime3000 said

Although I wish the penguin were more similar to the Günter penguin from the Cartoon Network animated series "Adventure Time." Anyway, that penguin looks great.

As they say here in Chile, "now it's more cool"….

But elav, respectfully a query ... according to the slogan ... «... let's use linux to be free ...» why not ??? ...

«... let's use GNU / Linux to be free ...»

    it's just a suggestion.
    Greetings.

    1.    eliotime3000 said

Because many of the GNU / Linux users do not know the correct term "GNU / Linux", since Linux is the kernel of the operating system, and GNU, the operating system, according to the conception of Richard Stallman and the FSF. In addition, most of the distros are not 100% free for the FSF to consider them as reliable options against Windows and Mac (bigotry, bigotry everywhere).

    2.    cat said

Although it is the correct term, with «... let's use GNU / Linux to be free ...» nothing happens

      1.    elav said

What of Let's use Linux to be free was totally intentional .. by Let's use Linux obviously.

        1.    cat said

that was obvious, there was no reason to say it

    3.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Indeed, our slogan before was «Learn to be better desde Linux", Making reference "desde Linux» to our site, to the domain, now we change it to «Let's use Linux to be free ", which encompasses more the feeling of our site (for" to be free ") and also the" Let's use Linux "obviously refers to the merger 🙂

  45.   cooper15 said

It has simply been incredible for you, I congratulate you, I know that a job like this is not something that is done in one go, you have my respects this is love for the community 🙂 keep it up elav, KZKG ^ Gaara, let's use linux and other collaborators.
