Hello, this is my first post and unfortunately it is, at least for me and I think for the entire SL Community, to give sad news.
On Saturday I found out that the project will no longer be developed. The truth is that the news caused me the greatest sadness in recent years. I know, several will say that there are many distros with which to replace it, but none will give me the same as UtutoXS.
Not long ago I started with the SL. Just a few years. AND UtutoXS it's on my laptop almost from the start. It was with her that I really understood the privilege of feeling free, the possibility of choosing and the obligation to learn to maintain it.
It was not easy due to my little knowledge, but I had the help of the developers and the entire SL community that each day contributes to advance more in equal opportunities.
Went with UtutoXS that I could make my own the phrase of that great Soviet who said that: FREEDOM IS THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF NEED.
UtutoXS It was my need, I manage to make today know a little more and be able to return that knowledge to those who need it. Because it's not mine, it's everyone's product and it belongs to everyone.
Just thank you for everything you gave us. Especially to Daniel and Luciano who were the ones who helped me the most, but without forgetting the rest, who are also responsible for making the project what it is.
It is my wish that it be only a SEE YOU.
Sorry for this post which is actually my catharsis but I think it was an important part of the community.
A shame. Luckily we have other distros like Parabola or Trisquel for the most purists.
Or Musix that's coming back
http://musixdistro.wordpress.com/2013/11/01/musix-gnulinux-3-0-rc2-liberado/
What I don't understand is because all free distros have to look so ugly ...
Arch, by default it is ugly and nobody complains.
Arch does not come with any theme in general, that musix comes with a horrible theme that they have put on it.
Still, for many, the TTY interface and the RatPoison interface are the ugliest interfaces of all.
For many not ..., for some, 0,05% of world users, perhaps.
Arch is not free
Parabola GNU / Linux-Libre, yes.
Hello pandev92, what you say is partly true, but UtutoXS was not so ugly when installed. The general all the desktops came unmodified except the default one which is a mix of gnome and kde.
Thanks for comment.
I also complain that the distros have ugly themes, the gnome god icons are disgusting, but we are not to blame for being programmers with little UU decorative creativity, we care to make it work and the designers to make it look good although you should learn a little of both so that things are not so thrown away xD
Terrible news illukki ... I drop a tear!
I can not believe it. 🙁
I don't know whether to call it a problem, but there is a total lack of aesthetic criteria that is very prevalent in the SL ecosystem. And not only that, there is also a lack of creativity when it comes to naming software and clear examples are the excesses in the use of consonants, depending on the environment, such as G, K and Q.
Trisquel is not ugly at all.
I install TRISQUEL on netbooks… .. it runs very well, it is compatible with old PC's.
That is true I like how it is newly installed. Thanks for comment.
openSuse with Kde, Ubuntu with Unity, Fedora Gnome Shell and Lxde tuned Ugly? good at tastes break genres.
He meant that 100% free distros look ugly. The ones you named are not 100% free.
Salu2
Likewise, those sponsored by the FSF will always be the distros of respect for adopting the FSF philosophy.
A pity, I could never test it either, because the iso download repository was hyper slow.
Small correction:
The phrase "Freedom is the consciousness of necessity" is from Hegel. Engels compiled it in his book Anti-Dürhing.
Hello diazepan, strange I read it in Lenin's upper stage imperialism of capitalism. But since I do not have it to corroborate, I accept the correction.
Thanks for comment.
Lenin, that great democrat !! (ironic mode off)
Well, in politics we do not all think the same, although I do not know from all the fuss if the two extremes are intended for people to work only for food.
And what is your ideal of democracy? The US? the Spanish?
Lenin's idea of democracy was to build it in workers' councils (soviets), starting from the work centers, factories, workshops, so that the proletariat could exercise it de facto, electing its representatives from among them, who were workers like them, and revocable at any time. Another very different thing is the bureaucratic giant that the USSR later became, and of course, the megalomania that the media of our "free world" have been telling us since the end of the Second World War.
my idea of democracy is one where all ideologies are accepted, period, and neither cuba, nor venezuela nor the ussr, nor eastern Germany nor the entire apparatus of eastern europe, have ever been an example of democracy. After all, communism is very much like Hitler's National Socialism.
I just wanted to try it, to use Gentoo.
Hi, I'll use it while I can and then Gentoo comes.
Thanks for comment.
Gentoo, in my opinion, looks like a semi-registry to me so you have to compile everything.
Does anyone know what knowledge you need to have, to contribute as a maintainer
It's a shame, but that's not the way life is, distros go distros come.
Greetings.
Sadly true. Thanks for comment.
May this goodbye help us, to become aware of how difficult it is for programmers to maintain a Linux distribution.
That is why our help and collaboration must always be in our thinking and when we criticize, think that behind this is a person who is dedicating his time altruistically, and that if he sometimes wants to get some money, that will be for the benefit of you can get on with the job.
I can not agree more with you.
+ 1!
If you cannot maintain a project, it is better not to start it, you must know how to anticipate what your abilities, time and objectives are.
For personal projects it would apply, but free projects are above that, due to its open and community nature, anyone can take it up again.
I agree with Jvare because I think the point he wants to make in his comment is to remind us that there is a lot of meanness among users of free systems, to the extent that when we see the "donate" button we are horrified (I thought it was free! I'm leaving) and we forget the enormous effort involved in maintaining something as a distro.
There is the same meanness as in any other system, users are people, just like osx or windows users, so you will find the same reactions.
I did not say that there were not in other systems, although I am not so sure to find the same reaction, to begin with because proprietary projects that survive based on donations are minimal, and people accustomed to proprietary software are more with the idea of pay or use it cracked, and either of those two cases recognizes the efforts of the developer.
"And I repeat, when you start a project you must know how to accept criticism, whether it is free or not, nothing changes." You did not say that before, but yes, I totally agree, accept the criticism and take it according to who it comes from.
And I repeat, when you start a project you must know how to accept criticism, whether it is free or not, nothing changes.
Criticism is only made in order to improve the shortcomings, when this condition is not met it becomes an insult.
There are too many distributions in free software…. If free software wants to succeed, it must focus on creating programs that are compatible with desktops and that meet the basic needs of average users.
We need: a functional video editor and converter, LibreOffice should be polished, Inskcape and gimp should be improved.
and of course other programs should improve
That's true. If these aspects do not improve, I will always be tied to my partition with Windows Vista + CorelDraw, Adobe Creative Suite and other proprietary tools.
Pus 8 months ago I got a pc and started to learn to program and my debian is only with repos main and I have not missed anything I already made a video game (with c ++, sdl, inkscape (which is the net) ) which is not a big deal but the engine and images and everything except music are me, I just need to finish knowing how to make a web page and upload it. That free software is the reostia and you don't even know.
Well, I work more with video editing and graphic design. With Inkscape and GIMP so far, I have not gotten used to their tools.
I want it free, as I say and I want it now.
Wow ... I tried it a long time ago in VirtualBox, and it's a shame, among other things because it was the first 100% free distro, but hey, we have more 100% free distros like trisquel and parabola (I tried the latter for quite some time and I highly recommend it).
A greeting.
But is it so necessary that there are two hundred thousand distributions that differ less and less? Ututuo, a free and Argentine distribution, period.
That mania that nonconformists have. Better get on with LFS.
«UtutoXS was my need, I am able to make today know a little more and be able to return that knowledge to those who need it. Because it's not mine, it's everyone's product and it belongs to everyone. "
You got the feeling from me, brother, and it is a real shame to move on and keep those beautiful memories.
Thanks for the comment. If she leaves me good memories (even those in which I was reputed »# $% because I couldn't make her walk XD). Regards.
But did anyone ever use ututo !? I thought it was only used by the fundamentalist Diego O. who also showed that he was more interested in politics than GNU / LINUX.
Anyway, the times that I tested ututo I found it heavy, peeeeeesaaaadaaaa, full bloated and that it did not contribute anything about my dear Gentoo since I can make my installation as free as I want.
An inconsequential distro that did not leave anything and that except for a few people no one is going to miss.
Hello LaPosta; I use UtutoXS and the truth is that what it was created for works as it should. Obviously it cannot be compared with Gentoo but it makes it more accessible, since it took me many attempts to install Gentoo on my computer.
Thanks for comment. Regards.
Hello again, for those who are interested, people are already meeting to continue the project. We'll see what happens.
More info here:
http://www.mdzol.com/seccion/hackers/ (sorry but I didn't know how to put the link)
Greetings.
Too bad we still have Debian 🙂
I am on Debian.
Regrettable loss for the SL
Regards!
Ututo, the first 100% Free GNU / Linux in history… sniff… RIP…
If a shame. Likewise, a group of people began to move to follow the project. We will have to wait for the unwanted RIP.
Thanks for the comment and for your links. Regards.
Knowing about a fallen comrade is always sad, like many other distros, whether they are pioneers or derivatives, "natural selection" will be applied to them and only their inheritable code that suits their context will "survive", honor and glory for what it means UTUTO, because every step that is taken in Linux is a step that the community walks.
I never tried it, apparently it is a free distro based on gentoo ...
Even so, most likely people who like the distro will fork, something similar to what happened with gnome 2 ...
SIIII, something is already being put together. 😉
Thanks for the comment. Regards.
What bad news uu
PS: Are you the same person of identi?
The same dress and shoes.
Thanks for comment.
It's a shame that one of the pioneering distros of the truly free SL ceased to exist but was coming. Although the people of Parabola are more than great at making not only a free and avant-garde OS but so complete. One day the 100% FREE distros will have to join forces. And if the icons of most of the distros are ugly and outdated. So many cute icons out there and they all insist on using the ugly defaults. Another is the issue, there are some like greybird that shine for excellence or the forgotten aurora that despite the powerfulness of that gtk engine have not ported it to gtk3. But Unico is a wonderful replacement. Gnome folks should now replace Faenza with their default icons. Even the elementary ones are prettier than the gray and unpolished gnomes.
KDE's default pointers are very excellent one of the few good default things about that desktop. They have enough variety to suit any setting. Another point is the default configuration of each Desktop in each distro is somewhat unaesthetic. It costs nothing to change the Wallpaper; the icons; the topics; the configuration of the panels that reflect the identity of the distro.
Sad news, it really makes me sad too
I sincerely hoped this distro had this ending. The lack of maintainers and a very low-profile policy made this distro suffer the decline of an almost non-existent community
