The study published in the Verizon Business 2022 Data Breach Investigations Report (2022 DBIR) demonstrates an unprecedented scenario in the history of cybersecurity, it also highlights some of the major issues affecting the cybersecurity landscape on an international scale.

About the report
The report gives particular concern about the 13% increase in ransomware attacks in a single year; this represents a larger increase than the last five years combined. Criminals are looking to take advantage of increasingly sophisticated forms of malware, known as 'ransomware', which continue to prove particularly effective at exploiting and monetizing illegal access to private information.
- Celebrating its 2022th anniversary, the Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR 15) analyzed 23.896 security incidents and found 5.212 confirmed breaches.
- Compared to last year, ransomware attacks have increased by 13%, which is a significant increase when comparing this percentage to the last 5 years combined.
- Approximately 4 out of 5 violations can be attributed to organized crime, external actors are approximately 4 times more likely to cause these violations in an organization than internal actors.

According to a study highlighting the cost of human influence, people remain by far the weakest link in defending the level of cybersecurity of an organization. Nearly 25% of the total number of breaches in the 2022 report were due to social engineering attacks, and when human error and privilege abuse are added, the human element is behind 82% of the breaches analyzed last year .
