Atom
«The Atom Syndication Format is a file in XML format used for Web Syndication. Atom was developed as an alternative to RSS. Ben Trott was one of the proponents of the new format that came to be called Atom. He noted the incompatibility between some versions of the RSS protocol, as he thought that XML-RPC based publishing protocols were not interoperable enough.
The proponents of the new format organized the working group IETF Atom Publishing Format and Protocol. The ATOM rebroadcast format was published as an IETF "proposed standard" in the RFC 4287«.
