The excellent music player Audacious is a fork of Beep Media Player (BMP), which in turn is a fork of the famous xmms. It looks a lot like Winamp 2.x. It can play almost any sound file, even console audio files like AY, GBS, GYM, HES, KSS, NSF, NSFE, SAP, SPC, VGM, VGZ, VTX. It also has support for skins de Winamp 2 (also known as Winamp Classic). |
One of the best things about Audacious is the ability to extend its capabilities using plug-ins. Here are a few to give you an idea:
- It can function as a LADSPA host.
- Audio compression plug-in (AudioCompressor AGC) to keep the normalized volume at a specific level.
- Plug-in to improve echo.
- Plug-in to improve the crystallizer
- Plug-in to separate stereo audio
- Plgu-in to remove voices
- Plug-in to stretch sounds
- Plus…
A complete list of Audacious features, you can find it here.
Audacious comes with two interfaces

- Improved resampling support.
- Support for playback of consecutive songs without "clicks" or silences.
- The ALSA and OSS modules were significantly improved.
- The LADSPA module was remade.
- Improved support for corrupted mp3s.
- The notification tray icon works again.

Like many, I share this excellent player, especially the quality audio.
How would I replace the winamp classic interface after selecting GTK?
Exact! Of the best!
