NixOS 16.03 is here

For a few weeks, version 16.03 of this distro of independent origin has been available and that directly from the Netherlands, is focused on the desktop, and intended for experienced users, so if you are a novice user this OS may be more complicated than necessary and in addition to this, it brings a significant number of desktop environments from which you can choose to customize your computer.

This distro offers a different experience to the rest of the GNU / Linux distributions, and that is that its Nix package manager has a very peculiar directory tree, since the applications will go to nix / store (also the libraries) in addition to this, NixOS It has an update configuration model with which we can have different versions of the same application installed and even reverse the changes in a simple way, a success for this distro.

When talking about the desktop environment we must point out that KDE has been updated to the version plasma 5.5.5 (It is not the last one that has come out but it is the most current with a large number of resolved bugs) and Framework 5.19.

Beyond changes and improvements in desktop environments and visual details, the most significant changes in Nix OS 16.03 they have to do with updating your software, and that is that several versions have had considerable updates, for example Linux went from version 3.18 to version 4.4 and GCC went from version 4.9 to version 5.3 and NixOS was not going to stay behind.

Another important fact is that the support for the "reproducible builds" in Nix has been improved and optimized by means of a set of methods that make it clear that its binary code has been developed entirely from original source code. Something that they are also doing in GNU / Linux distributions like Debian or Fedora and also some free software projects like the Tor project. It is quite possible that others will follow these steps and adopt this practice sooner rather than later.
