If you did not know it, surely many who are dedicated to image editing or are professional photographers do know it, it is about the service Adobe Lightroom, a software from the Adobe firm that offers a series of functionalities for photos in the cloud. Among other things, you can easily edit, organize, store and share images from anywhere. So you will have incredible photos with very powerful editing options that you can use from any device and from anywhere, all easily.

Well, if you are looking for that for GNU / Linux and other open source operating systems you will find that Adobe products are not available. In fact, only some Adobe programs are available for our distros and they certainly leave a lot to be desired compared to other versions for other operating systems such as Windows or MacOS. On the other hand, you are not totally lost, since there are many alternatives to these programs and today we are going to talk to you about the alternatives for Adobe Lightroom. There are some functionalities such as image processing and digital file management (DAM) that you will surely be looking for in the alternatives that we are going to offer you. The best alternatives, although there are more, are LightZone, Darktable and RawTherapee, although certainly none of them have capabilities for classifying and categorizing images based on learning as the Adobe product does, and if that is not an inconvenience for your work, you will like them.

  • lightzone: enables Raw image processing and is cross-platform, supports JPEG, AND TIFF as well.
  • RawTherapee: also open source under GPL, multiplatform and with non-destructive editing functions and compatible with various formats such as the other two ...
  • Darktable- It can process Raw images and also other formats like JPEG, PNG, TIFF, PPM, PFM and EXR. It is compatible with certain web albums such as those of Google and Facebook, and has image adjustment and editing modules. Therefore, this is my favorite and the most recommended option for most cases.
