If you are a user of Ubuntu 11.10 and you install gnome-shell, you may want to always start your session using this and not Unity.
To achieve this we only have to open a terminal and put:
sudo /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-set-defaults -s gnome-shell
and to use again Unity:
sudo /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-set-defaults -s ubuntu
This way we don't have to manually choose which one we want to use whenever we start the session.

Unity does not convince me at all, it is that compiz is very unstable, any bad movement and everything becomes chaos, canonical should make a Lite version of compiz that includes only the Unity configurations with its own effects manager making it more stable , although the cube and other effects are lost, leaving only the stable effects of unity. I hope that with the change to Wayland the proprietary drivers will improve their quality.
Hello and first of all, welcome to our site 😀
Unstable Compiz? In fact yes, but not in all distros. I mean, I used Compiz a while ago on my ArchLinux (I don't use it anymore) and it was 100% stable, in Debian I could also assure you that it is stable.
Gnome3 + Shell allows what you say, that is, it has its own application that takes care of the effects and animations (that is, it is not compiz).
Well, welcome to our blog.

Let's hope .. U_U
