AmayaOS is a UNIX-like Operating System, but not based on GNU / Linux, designed to work especially on computers with few resources and that would otherwise be totally obsolete. Furthermore, AmayaOS uses the GNU GPL v3 license, and is 100% free software.
The AmayaOS project started in 2014 and since then it has progressively evolved. Despite not having much compatible software yet, AmayaOS comes by default with a small user interface (TUI), two text editors (one on the terminal and the other on the TUI), some basic commands included in AmayaCoreutils such as cp, cat, ls , cd, etc and some games.
AmayaOS can be run on practically any machine as it has very acceptable minimum requirements:
- I386 processor at least 75-100 MHz
- 13 MB RAM
We can test AmayaOS both on a real PC, downloading and burning the ISO on a CD since at the moment it is only LiveCD, or on a virtual machine such as QEMU or VirtualBox.
ISO Image can be downloaded from the project's SourceForge page in just a few seconds since it only occupies 2MB. You can also visit the AmayaOS official website for more information.
interesting: 3 that's lightness
Okay. It is interesting to know that there are FOSS alternatives other than GNU / Linux and FreeBSD. If I'm not wrong, it is also the same north of Guix. I think the FSF are putting Linux aside (along with the influence: Linux Foundation, Red Hat, OSI, UE, Politics in General, Systemd [hehehe], etc ...). Hopefully I don't die like Plan9 did. Speaking of him I would like to study more in depth about that SO ...
