From libuntu This news reaches me, which in turn comes from Phoronix.
It happens that AMD has fired Andreas Herrmann, Robert Richter, and Borislav Petkov (Until now).
We can deduce this from the Kernel mailing list, where they indicate that these three people no longer have an email ___@amd.com.
What were these doing? … Well, they were responsible for basic and important functions for AMD / Ati compatibility in the kernel, specifically: cpufreq, powernow-k8, fam15h_power, and AMD Microcode.
According to these sites:
Apparently AMD will fire other developers who help maintain support for Linux. It was known that the company will get rid of 15% of its engineering staff.
We are not done yet ...
I read now another article by Phoronix called: Indeed, AMD is losing more Linux developers.
I will not talk to you about speculations that exist, I will try to show you only concrete facts now ... 😀
Now it is added to the list: Joerg roedel, who on the same mailing list has announced that he no longer has access to his email at AMD.com/ Joerg (another German) takes care of maintaining AMD IOMMU (AMD-VI) support in the kernel, and to clarify, he has contributed to Linux for more than 5 years.
I recommend reading the article by phonoix for the connoisseurs, though… there are undoubtedly BIG problems at AMD Germany.
Well… if before (now) AMD / Ati support on our Linux system sucked, after this… god, I don't know what to think O_O
regards
I have always been disgusted by all AMD / ATI but now I am disgusted to infinity.

And beyond!
The screwed up thing is that I like AMD much more than Intel in terms of CPU 🙁 ...
I have the same feeling. The desktop pc that I gave to my brother a year ago is AMD CPU and graphics card.
To buy intel no matter how expensive they are.
Well yes, they are more expensive, but they are the ones that give the most support to Linux.
It is a pity that these companies have this attitude.
The CPU of my desktop pc is AMD, and I personally liked AMD, but now with more reason I will NEVER buy anything from AMD, it seems to me that the strategy you are following is quite bad.
Nvidia deserves a round of applause in this regard.
Regards!
Curious. Steam comes to Linux with superior performance than Windows and AMD fired those responsible for supporting ATIs in the kernel. Is it a coincidence ???
I thought the same thing. Very Suspicious.
As much as "getting to" a better performance No.So far, that is only Valve advertising and nobody knows except "them."
What it is is that so much that people used to say that "Valve is almost ready and talked about" that they take out Linux drivers and this happens and it would no longer have a way to sustain the hype with Steam.
NOOOO! because it occurred to me to have an ati card …… TT ^ TT
How good that I found out in time D: I wanted some AMD + Radeon, now Full Intel or Intel + Nvidia and that's it.
Well I'm going to create my own gpu with games of chance and sluts
in fact forget the gpu and gambling, ah, forget the matter.
This type of comments justify the existence of a "Like" button
and I wanted to buy an ATI ¬ ¬ *
i think i'll go back to nvidia next time i buy a pc
The AMD quality / price ratio seemed fine to me, but I think now I will have to save and use Intel.
And this company is a GOLD member of the Linux Foundation? HA! They should kick her out !!!
They would also have to expel their little money that they contribute and I don't think that the Linux Foundation is very given to saying no to Don Dinero.
Fuck what a bad roll with this decision I make: S
my current and old PC are AMD and the integrated graphics of this is an ATI that lasted 6 MONTHS.
I already mentioned it on IRC one day, the day I go to improve my equipment I am going to go for an Intel or Intel + Nvidia board (the one I have is 4 years old and is great for me)
FUCK YOU AMD
This is all very sad and "sure" that AMD is not concerned about our reaction.
In my case I have always been clear about it, I have never bought a computer to play games, I prefer to invest the difference in a console. For that reason, I always choose Intel ...
regards
I'm happy with my "most expensive" and "worst graphics" of my Intel! hehe ..
I don't care about graphics acceleration or 3D, as long as the kernel recognizes it almost without problems, and when I have them, I can solve it just by searching in google ..
I don't know the others, because the Notebooks that passed through my hands had Intel living inside them.
The only clear solution is to stop buying, speaking to your pocket is that they will begin to hear.
The strategy of "we are going to be many (buying) and thus they will take us into account" is more than clear that it does not work.
Well now, if we don't ..
nVIDIA does not work on Linux and now also AMD / ATI.
The decision of said company is regrettable, I think that on the part of us Linux users, the next time we think about acquiring a computer, we must make sure that it is not AMD.
To date I have an AMD Radeon laptop and the truth is that it took me many tutorials and hours to get the graphics ready, so I have decided that for the next best one an Intel.
I am with Intel CPU and AMD graphics, and from experience I do not think that the nVidia perform better ... for my part, unless they take something that makes me change my mind, I think I will continue with the configurations as I have been so far ...
The saddest thing is that the option of free AMD drivers is worse than the one that exists proprietary. Black screens and algaretes colors everywhere.
I think nobody knows the reason why they were fired but already everyone is ranting and threatening not to buy. Is it just because they are Linux developers wrong? Better you have to investigate why they were fired, if that affects or not in terms of their support for Linux and not talk, shout and threaten the fool.
Exactly, that's what I think. I see no reason to go around saying that I'm not buying any more AMD products for that reason, at least for now.
I think the reason would be to renew the template that supports ATI cards. as they said above… Steam is about to come to linux… and to know how this movement will influence ATI and Nvidia
While this news inspires mistrust, I recommend guys not to draw conclusions until there is more information, xD What if those guys were dark demons that damaged the drivers? ajajaj xD joke, but be careful, wait for more info
I do not say it for this news, I do not care why they were fired. I am a Taliban of Intel processors and Nvidia graphics and I have never bought or will buy anything AMD / ATI even if they pay me to buy it.
AMD / ATI have never liked me, they disgusted me in my early days back in 2005.
with this they are at the same height as intel, I will have to look at ARM or MIPS
In the news, it goes without saying that the fired developers are part of a select (but not fortunate) group of amd employees who were fired, due to financial problems, the amd workforce was reduced by 15%.
Well then I add amd to my blacklist 😛 (along with SiS, huawei and others that only complicate things). Since a few years ago I turned on an entirely intel computer with an OpenSuse live and I don't ask anything to walk properly (even with the gelatinous KDE windows), I realized that this is the only hardware that gives full support to linux. Nvidia also goes this way, but the difference with the other OS driver is very noticeable.
The fact that the CPU is Intel is not a guarantee of anything with the graphics and based on that it cannot be said that all models of dedicated graphics that are not Intel are going to give you problems.
Intel doesn't just make CPUs, it makes motherboards, graphics chipsets and controllers, network cards, etc. When you compile a kernel one notices in the modules the abysmal difference that there is of support with other brands. Nor is it an angel ... there are certain celerons that are blocked to linux by agreements with MS. So far I have not found a graphic from another brand that works well without something strange (an extreme case in nvidia with the same opensuse http://bitly.com/RbGzPZ ). It would be very precious never to buy amd again, since it is an important and quality brand, but one is making priorities when choosing, although as always, the economic factor will influence.
At this rate I'm going to change to ARM = S
What a horror, what a stupid thing ... Oh my god xd
It's funny about some comments ... Being that AMD in GNU / Linux is almost on par with Intel:
http://www.chw.net/2012/10/apu-amd-a10-5800k-trinity-probado-en-linux/
http://www.chw.net/2012/10/cpu-amd-fx-8350-probado-en-linux/
AHHHHHHHHHHH I just bought apu processors from AMD and I do not use windows and the sound cuts out if I pause a video in vlc precise-12.04 I have to delay it 10sec to recover it and small errors with the E-350 graphics works well but it could be better the A6 still has not taken it out of their boxes who gives + 🙂
First you have to wait, what were the real reasons of the company for making this decision
