AMD releases Linux drivers (OpenSource) for Radeon 7000 GPU

From the iconic site Geek.com I get this news 😀

The users (Linux) of novel graphics cards AMD You will know how tedious it can be to properly configure your card in the distro, and this is being lucky ... because many times not even that, we cannot make the most of its performance because the available drivers are (to put it in a nice way ) "A complete disaster" 🙂

Well, let's hope the situation improves now ...

As the statement says, AMD has released the drivers for Linux of its Radeon 7000 GPU. It comes in the form of patches, and users of the latest Fusion Trinity APUs.

Hopefully for kernel 3.4 these improvements are already included 😀

How does this specifically help us? ...

Now if you have one of the most modern AMD, with these improvements everything will work significantly faster, you will really have your card working / working as it always should have, in a more fluid way. Also, if you want to overclock it, you can do it 😉

Internal power management improved, thermal sensors are now more reliable (since apparently before they gave values not completely true), and obviously… graphic acceleration for videos, games, etc was improved 😀

If you want to read even more technical details, you can see the post of Phoronix.

I'm not saying that now AMD is perfect on Linux (Well, from personal experience I tell you that it is not like that ...), but hey… it's an advance, isn't it? 🙂

regards

Surely it will continue more or less in the quality of the normal driver for the other ati, I am talking about opensource, because although they have opened the driver, that does not mean an improvement, but now they are supported just like the others.

Good, and hopefully this also influences Nvidia and takes a little more effort, because so far free software has kind of slipped.

Sorry, I once bought an nvidia 8500 and it was using proprietary nvidia drivers. Currently nvidia is better supported than an ati in Gnu / Linux.
I understand that this news may change the answer in the future but I am not aware of the present.

Stay with the Nvidia. ATIs are a headache. I have a laptop with an old ATI and from a certain version of the Xorg they discontinued the support. Result: I threw the performance to the m… ..a
