And speaking of free alternatives to cPanel ...

Greetings to all. Today I will talk about the available alternatives for the cPanel, a control panel made to manage the content of LAMP-based web pages.

Obviously, this control panel is proprietary, in addition to the fact that the developers themselves help you install it so that you do not make any mistakes when installing.

However, many of those who want to embark on the adventure of the universe of web servers, the cPanel they really find it a stone in the way.

For this reason, and thanks to this post which was recently published about GNUPanel, I will talk about the control panels to manage a web server under LAMP (Linux, Apache {or NginX}, MySQL {or MariaDB} and PHP / Perl / Python).

What is a web server control panel?

A web server control panel is essentially a web interface, which shows us, as a control panel, various functionalities that we have in our web server such as Domain Name Server (o DNS for its acronym in English), in addition to managing access to files stored through FTP, the databases that exist, among many other things.

The main advantage of having a control panel for these purposes is to make life easier for us with web administration, as well as not necessarily having to depend on a console to do all that "tedious" work. In many cases, it is quite useful for those who are just starting to dabble in the subject of web administration.

Among the most popular control panels there are: cPanel (the one we mentioned previously), zPanel and GNUPanel.

Best known free alternatives to cPanel

zPanel

zPanel is a web server control panel that has become popular in recent months thanks to its refined graphical interface, which has aroused the interest of companies such as A2 Hosting, which is offering in its plans to reseller this control panel as an alternative to cPanel thanks to its simple and intuitive interface and how active its community is.

Currently, this control panel can be tested on both distros GNU / Linux as Ubuntu y CentOS as well as in Windows.

GNUPanel

GNUPanel It is the first alternative project to cPanel, which has attracted interest from both the FSF and other developers.

The interface of the current stable version of GNUPanel is quite simple compared to ZPanel, which some may not be familiar with.

With the release of version 2.0 of this control panel, it is expected that it will not only benefit the users of this panel, but also those interested in contributing to the improvement of the operation of this panel.

GNUPanel is 100% recommended by DesdeLinux

Remember that GNUPanel he wants to improve, provide better options, be part of the FSF and for this he needs our help.

For now that's all. In case you know more control panels to manage web servers, please mention it in the comments. That's it.

Until the next post.

For those who ask why the Windows screenshots, the reason I made them in Windows is because I was doing my internship at the institute where I study.

And by the way, I not only use Debian Wheezy, but also Windows Vista, which I have been using for a long time.

From Windows: Let's use Windows to be (even more) Windowslerdos.

      Hahaha!!!

The article talks about web control panels, not Linux itself. Anyway, I already explained the reason why I made the screenshots in Windows.

Maybe I'll take the time to do an article about GNU Panel.

Kind of comfortable, but it's pretty messy for me. Anyway, I'll try it with more time.

It is true that it needs a revision of its graphical interface. But otherwise it is infinitely more complete than any of the ones you have named before and even more complete than many payment panels. You can configure everything absolutely everything.

Only without patience you can get lost among its countless options.

The bad thing about virtualmin is that it is a mess in the options, but in truth, it is an excellent replacement for the WHM + cPanel. For now, I'm using zPanel, which has done wonders for me with its very neat interface (version 10.1 has sort of refined the aesthetics a lot, and recently it is enjoying enormous popularity to be considered as a tangible alternative to cPanel. ), and I'm just trying GNUPanel, which is pretty straightforward, but it's worth donating a few pennies for the project.

The best thing would be to use Virtualmin as a replacement for WHM thanks to its complexity in terms of VPS administration ', but for a hosting panel, I prefer either the GNUPanel or the zPanel (cPanel is a disaster for me).

I use Zpanel and do the same things as with Cpanel. Very fast loading. I use Centos6.6 and it does not load the statistics module, but I can open them from the console

I am a newbie in managing web servers, I currently have a CentOS 6.5 running on AWS with Sentora installed (the successor to zPanel). I actually tried several and I liked it much more for the aesthetics and the intuitive, more than anything not for me but for my potential hosting clients to offer them something simple to use and manage. The problem I find myself in is that it is becoming very difficult for me to be able to configure it correctly to be able to access webmail and mysql through a little more friendly addresses. If some kind soul can give me a hand I would be eternally grateful

I don't understand what is the problem with using windows and linux, you can use both, some will find better performance in one than in the other, but why stigmatize someone for that simple choice? Doesn't it seem like something silly to you that shows how little mental capacity they have when criticizing each other for something so silly?

Hi. Excellent article! One question ... Are these still good alternatives today or are there better options in the free world today?
