Android goes back to kernel 3.3

Various Android subsystems and features have already been merged, and much more will follow in the future. This will make things easier for everyone, including the community. Android, or the distributions of Linux who want to support Android programs.

We may not see a significant impact of this change immediately, but it means that in the coming months and years it will be much easier for developers de Linux put up with program Android and vice versa.

For a long time, the Android code had not been merged with the Linux repositories because the developers of both projects could not agree. After several years of working on the differences, the two projects are finally together and the discussions are apparently left behind. What did not make it into kernel 3.3 will be integrated into future releases.

This means that the kernel can be used directly in Android devices and vice versa, since it brings the necessary drivers for this system. It will also be easier to update these drivers or implement them by the manufacturers, who would automatically have them functional in Android and GNU / Linux.

Undoubtedly a long-awaited news not only by manufacturers since drivers for the Android or Linux kernel can be created and the work of maintaining separate patches for each update of the Android kernel can be reduced or eliminated. Developers and users will also be able to run and develop applications on the two systems, run them separately on a PC without risk of incompatibilities or on different mobile devices and make them interact without problems.

But Android is not the only addition. Also included was support for the Texas Instruments c64x and c66x processors, used in printers, medical equipment, and other devices. Added some improvements to the file system, memory management, security, and others. The new kernel also integrates Open vSwitch, a system for managing data traffic between virtual machines.

To see a technical detail of all the new features incorporated in this version, I recommend reading Kernelnewbies:
