Antergos becomes a discontinued project

Via the official blog, the Arch Linux-based Linux distribution, Antergos, announced today that the project is discontinued, leaving the latest version of the system without an update of any kind.

Arch Linux has always been a system not recommended for newbies. Antergos wanted to change this and released an accessible distribution with a simple installation method.

It was in 2013 when Antergos made its appearance, but it was until 2014 when it really began to gain popularity in the community, reaching almost a million downloads in its life cycle.

Yesterday morning, Antergos happened to be a discontinued project, one of the main reasons for this decision, as mentioned in the publication, is the lack of time to develop and add the news.

Of course, and as almost always happens in the world of open source software, the developers mentioned that Antergos is a free project and the code is available to all those interested in creating their own distribution.

What to do if you have Antergos installed?

If you are an Antergos user, don't worry, it is not that your system becomes unusable today. The system will continue to receive updates directly from Arch Linux.

Additionally, the Antergos team plans to release an update to remove all system repositories along with specific packages that will no longer work now that development is complete. The Antergos forum and wiki will work for some time before they are also decommissioned.

If you want to continue using Arch Linux through a distribution, it is best to look for Manjaro Linux, a system that started in the same way as Antergos and that works the same, although with delayed updates to check the general stability.
