AnythingLLM App, an open and all-in-one AI app available for Linux
Last month (June, 2026) we offered them a useful and practical publication about "LM Studio", one of the best known and most used open and cross-platform applications in the field of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) for the desktop computer, that is, a graphical tool capable of running LLM models without an internet connectionAnd since there are many other truly useful and versatile ones for the different and most widely used operating systems in the world (Windows, macOS, and Linux), today we will offer you another post about some of them, called «AnythingLLM».
Furthermore, if you've never seen, heard, or read about this desktop AI application before, it's worth highlighting from the outset what... Like LM Studio and similar programs, AnythingLLM solves an important and broad computing question that every IAG user always has in mind. What all-in-one, customizable, private, reliable AI application with support for local LLMs, RAGs, and AI agents exists and can be used without dealing with complex configurations for personal, student, and professional purposes in a home, business, or organization? So, if you're one of those people looking for a similar tool for study or work, then keep reading to learn more..
LM Studio: An app to run local and open LLM on your PC
But, before we delve into this Interesting post about a new Artificial Intelligence application called "AnythingLLM"This platform, like many others, is designed to harness the power of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) directly on our computers, enhancing our privacy, anonymity, security, and economics; we recommend exploring one previous related post, upon finishing reading it:
As an IT teacher and computer engineer, I often test, use, and recommend many software tools (professional, work-related, and educational). Some of these are Google Notebook LM and Gemini (both from Google). However, since those are online, I usually recommend other AI tools for offline use, such as AnythingLLM, Bavarder, Chatbox, Clippy Desktop Assistant, ComfyUI, GPT4All, Jan IA, Koboldcpp, LM Studio, Local AI, Ollama, Msty, Newelle, Pinokio, PyGPT, NetxChat, and Witsy, among others.

What is AnythingLLM?
Analyzing the Official website from «AnythingLLM»This open-source development and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tool can be briefly described as follows:
AnythingLLM is one of the leading, easiest-to-use, all-in-one AI applications capable of managing Recall Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, AI Agents, and much more—without major coding or infrastructure headaches. Furthermore, AnythingLLM is created by the privately held company Mintplex Labs, Inc., meaning it's not a one-person project. So, if you want or need a private, all-in-one, configuration-free AI application for local LLMs, RAGs, and AI Agents, all in one place without the cumbersome setup required by an experienced developer, then AnythingLLM Desktop is ideal for you.
In addition, in his official section of GitHubThey highlight the following:
By using AnythingLLM, you already get everything you need for a powerful agentic AI experience centered on your own local environment. And since we're also working on the Open Computer, which provides a complete computing environment for AI agents to use, we expect to soon take AnythingLLM's agent capabilities to a new level and a groundbreaking user experience paradigm for using AI agents.
Nota: The project Open Computer is a virtual operating system Created specifically for AI agents to inhabit and operate. It is designed so that the humans manage it, but so that the agents AI agents use it. It's not a general-purpose operating system, but a specialized environment, specifically designed for AI agents to run on real hardware with realistic resource constraints.
Key features and functions
AnythingLLM is a very robust and versatile tool, therefore it has a immense number of excellent featuresHowever, among the most outstanding and important ones we can mention some such as the following:
- It is open source: Furthermore, it is a free-to-use application that has an MIT license.
- It includes a built-in developer APIThis allows it to be used as a powerful API for any custom development or function in existing AI products.
- It has multimodal capability. That is why it works very well with natural language learning (LLM) materials, both text-based and multimodal (documents, images, and audio), in a single interface.
- It allows the use of many LLM models locally. To do this, it offers an internal mechanism for downloading some LLM models with a single click, or via the cloud or by downloading and importing GGUF files.
- It is built as part of an AI ecosystemTherefore, it concentrates and has a growing ecosystem of add-ons and integrations to expand its functionality throughout the application and the devices where it is used.
- It offers an easy-to-use Graphical User InterfaceAnd thanks to this, it integrates all its incredible functionality in a single elegant GUI so that anyone can easily take advantage of LLM for any task.
- It is very customizableThis means that, in addition to expanding its potential through custom AI agents, it also allows connection to and use of third-party applications, and much more. Therefore, the only limit is the capacity and reach of each user.
- It is a privacy-focused developmentConsequently, it is designed to favor privacy by default, because everything managed is stored and executed locally on the machine where AnythingLLM is running.
Installation Requirements (Hardware and Software)
On Windows, macOS and Linux
In summary, the most important points are that for AnythingLLM to function optimally, the following is required:
- Operating SystemsWindows 10/11, macOS 14.0 or higher and modern GNU/Linux distributions such as Ubuntu 23.04 and Debian 11, or higher.
- CPUIntel/AMD processors with 8 cores are recommended. On macOS, any M-series chip can handle local LLM without additional hardware.
- RAMThe minimum recommended amount of RAM is 16 GB, as LLMs consume a significant amount of operating system memory.
- GPUA dedicated graphics card with at least 4 GB of VRAM is required. However, 8 to 12 GB or more of VRAM is ideal.
Installation processes
- Installation and use on LinuxIts deployment is extremely clean and ideal for Linux environments, as it is officially distributed through a standalone AppImage package and is available for the following architectures: x64 y arm64. Explore installation tutorial
- Installation and use on WindowsIts deployment is quick and easy through a classic installer file (.exe), available for x64 and ARM architectures. Explore installation tutorial
- Installation and use on macOSIts deployment is versatile and efficient, both through a classic installer file (.dmg) and through the Homebrew system, and available for both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) and Intel processors. Explore installation tutorial
NotaCurrently, its current version is version AnythingLLM v1.15.0 dated end of June 2026.

Modern GGUF files, like the older and still-current GGML files, are file formats used to store AI models for inference. This is especially true in the context of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT). And of course, also for AI models known as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) models. However, GGUF, being more modern than GGML, is clearer, more extensible, more versatile, and capable of incorporating new information without compromising compatibility with older models. It's worth noting, though, that the development of the GGUF format is based on its predecessor, GGML.

Summary
In summary, «AnythingLLM»From my point of view, it is an excellent alternative for those who, for whatever reason, do not wish to or cannot use «LM Studio»This is a good point in its favor. «AnythingLLM» It does have extensive multilingual support for Spanish, among other features, such as excellent agent capabilities and RAG. However, a drawback would be that "LM Studio" has a larger number of LLM models (downloadable GGUF files) available for automated use due to their excellent integration with the website hugging face.
Therefore, I consider both IAG tools to be ideal and essential solutions. so that anyone (enthusiast, student, worker, and IT professional) can get started using LLM Models, RAG Systems, and local AI Agents—that is, without an internet connection. And as usual, We invite you to leave your opinion in the comments about this or other similar AI tools.
