Many users know that Cuba has its own distribution of GNU / Linux, which based on Ubuntu has the name of NOVA GNU / Linux.
It has been announced in the Free Software Blog of the University of Computer Sciences (UCI) that last August 2000 computers have been assembled with it, fulfilling one of the projections for 2011, where Cuban companies that assemble and import computers will provide as Operating system default Nova.
Facility Features:
- Nova 2011 with its default packages and necessary drivers for these PCs.
- Repository for i386 with 37 software packages available and configured on the hard drive.
- Optionally an image with windows XP, responding to the planned and progressive migration process.
PC Features:
- Motherboard: Asus P8.
- Processor: Intel Core i3
- RAM memory: 2Gb
- Hard Drive: 1 Tb
- 19 ″ Monitor, DVD Burner, Universal Card Reader.
Undoubtedly one more step in the unstoppable migration of our country.
Well, the computer is not bad at all. What annoys me is the heaviness of basing distros on Winb ... I mean Ubuntu. Max, the one in Madrid is exactly the same. They could use Debian as a base
Here in Cuba many times we have asked the NOVA Team to use Debian as a base, but come on, they have their reasons for using Ubuntu. ¬¬
But for this we would have to do the story from the beginning, right? HAHA ... they started based on Gentoo, compiling and recompiling 100% of everything, come on it was to reinvent the wheel ... well, if they were a group of 200 developers, but there are less than 20. Then, they went for a moment to be something based on RPM, we (the community) always told them to use DEB package, which was much more popular in the community, and they said so clearly that "Debian is for lazy and newbies" ... etc etc, and well here we are, they ended up basing that (Nova) in Ubuntu ¬_¬
Rather, I think what they think of Debian is that it is an outdated distro.
I see Canaima (Venezuelan distro) with better eyes, since it is based purely on Debian, it has been a VERY small scale something similar to LMDE.
Come on, better say that you prefer to use Debian, LMDE or Canaima before NOVA 😀
Well the truth should have used Debian as a base, but as the saying goes, each crazy with his theme.
By the way, these computers do not seem to be from an underdeveloped country, I hope they go to the hands that really need them.
hello2 😉
Well, where they end up I don't know, but as long as they serve to support a true migration, for me as if they are going to the moon .. 😀
How good that bet for free software in Cuba! … Offtopic: the +1 button doesn't work for several days on the blog.
Thanks for the warning, we'll see what happens with the +1, I don't remember that we have updated that plugin ...
Thanks once again.
Despite what they say about Ubuntu, these initiatives are of the utmost importance to us Linux users and to the country itself. Initiatives like this are needed in my country, for example, where it is almost impossible to obtain a PC with Linux by default.
Greetings.
PS: It's true about the +1 button. In the end it always turns red with a! when one uses it.
Do you want to laugh a little? Well, we can't check the button because we don't have access to it. What do you think?
Indeed, our ISP (Ministry) denies us access to Facebook, Google+ and obviously, denies us access to + 1… ^ _ ^ U
I already told you ... Manifestation ...
Colleague, do not form that you are there and we are here, if someone enters the blog with the necessary powers and sees something of a demonstration, they are capable of closing access ¬ ¬
Well wow, well you better delete it just in case
Na, don't take a fight, we just don't have to form a revolution, period hahaha 😀
:O
A PC abuse what they have put the Nova, my very personal opinion wasted hardware, they could have invested the same money in more PCs with a little less hardware resources. I know that whoever is in Cuba will understand me.
Welcome Banzai:
We understand you U_U
