Asus F201E, the first netbook with Windows 8 or Ubuntu

With the release of new tablets and smartphones, the market for netbooks it has been declining according to the criteria of some experts. If you ask me, I prefer one of these little laptops a thousand times, to a iPad or Samsung Galaxy SIII, but hey, for tastes ...

The thing is Asus has decided to launch an interesting netbook which has been baptized with the name F201E, which will come by default with Windows 8 or with Ubuntu. The prices seem more than interesting to me, especially because of the hardware it includes, and best of all, that the version with Ubuntu it has a truly tempting price.

I leave the official data for you to compare:

  • Windows 8
    • Asus F201E-KX052H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, Windows 8 - Black - € 329
    • Asus F201E-KX062H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Windows 8 - White - € 329
    • Asus F201E-KX063H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, Windows 8 - Blue - € 329
    • Asus F201E-KX064H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Windows 8 - Red - € 329
    • Asus F201E-KX065H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 8 - Black - € 359
    • Asus F201E-KX066H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 8 - White - € 359
    • Asus F201E-KX067H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 8 - Blue - € 359
    • Asus F201E-KX068H: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 8 - Red - € 359
  • Ubuntu
    • Asus F201E-KX066DU: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Ubuntu - white - € 299
    • Asus F201E-KX067DU: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Ubuntu - Blue - € 299
    • Asus F201E-KX068DU: Intel Celeron 847, 1,1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Ubuntu - red - € 299

One of the most interesting details is that Asus bet on a processor that does not belong to the family Atom, and that in theory, it should work much better than this. The netbook is also equipped with HDMI output, USB3, Rj45 connector and WiFi. It also has several colors for the lid.

I want one. Who buys it for me? xDD

Thanks for the information, I bought a tablet instead of a laptop for one reason above all, I need autonomy between 8 and 10 hours a day and the tablet gives it to me, on the other hand the portalites that I looked at did not give me that guarantee.
I am in love with Lubuntu for me the best of the best, but I think that a laptop with that price and with Ubuntu is very attractive.

Personally, a tablet only serves me to read ebooks, I am a programmer and I need to take my work with me everywhere. I'd definitely buy one if I had the money or the ability to have $$$ (fucking exchange control).

It is very MacBook aesthetics right? Anyway I like it, you have to see how well that mic performs.
    regards

It is not aesthetic "Macbook" since those designs are not theirs, they simply pay fortunes of exclusivity to exploit said image so that when it is opened for other manufacturers, people like you will believe that they are a copy! xD

The correct thing to do in such a case would be to say that the aesthetic is from Sony.

I did not say at any time that I believed it was a copy, I only said that it has a similar aesthetic ...

    That such.

I totally agree with you my dear Elav, a Net is preferable than an iPad or smart. The price is not bad and I think it is a good alternative. Although I already have a little over 2 years with my Net HP (with atom) the truth is that I am already beginning to miss more power in relation to the micro.

The good thing about this is that in addition to Dell we already see another manufacturer that offers another operating system (in this case Ubuntu), which is the real note for me personally.

Anyway, let's hope to see what happens with the other manufacturers and see how much flavor they add to the dish.

I don't understand anything ... why those of us who prefer GNU / Linux don't have the option of black? ... at least I personally don't like the "lazy" colors that they offer us. Anyway, dreaming costs nothing ...

We always have the option of taking a can of oil paint and giving it a little hand, right? … HAHAHA.

        Hehehehehehe ……

By the way, it's giving him a hand, not "a hand."

Well, that's the same hahaha, you got the idea 😀

Ñoooooooo still want one… ..it's more with these offers I think Ubuntu is going to be very popular… Imagine arriving at a store and seeing that difference in prices for the same product… this is going to need to be distributed among the big hardware manufacturers….

Excellent ram and hard drive for a netbook but ... the processor leaves a bit to be desired, right ?. And the battery life?

Netbook penalty, especially for the interesting price that has "free".

    Greetings.

    1.    charlie brown said

There is a direct relationship between processor power vs. battery life, which is why, as a general rule, netbooks use Atom processors or their equivalents. It is evident that the space available in these equipment does not allow the installation of higher capacity batteries, so it is counterproductive to install higher power processors.

If what you are looking for is a laptop of small dimensions and high performance, then you have to necessarily jump to ultrabooks, and I think we all know what this means in terms of price, so let's not ask for pears to the elm.

And where do they sell them?

    1.    Linda said

They are sold in amazon, here is the page http://www.amazon.de/dp/B009NCTL24/?tag=omgubuntu-21

or go to OMG ubuntu to be more sure http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/10/2-new-asus-new-windows-8-laptops-available-with-ubuntu

Personally, I see the CPU too short, a processor for a 1.1Ghz laptop ... at least it was at least 1,4Ghz, you won't be very limited

    Salu2 .. !!
Here in Mexico HP, through its HP store, sells a business range with the option of win7 or SUSE enterprise.

What a good idea from asus, waiting to see if it reaches Mexico. Someone tell me if it is advisable to use a netbook for programming, (I am in the middle of the first isc course)

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

It depends on what you want to program, if you plan to program for Android I recommend Eclipse, a really good IDE for Java ... the problem is that you would need a Core i3 or higher to be able to work with all the comforts, a netbook would not be enough for you.

However, to program in PHP, Django, Python, Bash or something similar of simple, a netbook is great 🙂

When will it be released in Spain? Will it be with Ubuntu or just Windows 8?
