AutoScan Network (II): scan your network and discover intruders

Now that we know how to install AutoScan Network, we are going to see how to configure it and how to detect intruders in our network, whether it is wired or wireless.

Before continuing I would like to clarify that although it is already on version 1.50 there are still things to improve in the operation of AutoScan Network. A couple of examples are that every time you start the wizard to add a new network opens instead of showing the last scan, which is quite annoying; and it is also possible that in one scan it detects a computer or device but does not do so in the next.

Hoping that it will improve shortly, we are going to what interests us right now: scanning our network and detecting intruders.

The steps to scan our network are as follows:

  1. Every time we start AutoScan Netwowrk, a wizard opens to configure small details about the network that we are going to scan. On the first screen, all we have to do is click on Forward.
The wizard to add a network begins

The wizard to add a network begins
  2. To add a new network we have to write the name that we are going to give it. In my case, I'm going to call her My network. However, since we already had a network saved from a previous scan, we would choose Restore and we would open the corresponding file.
We give the network a name

We give the network a name
  3. Next, we have to indicate where our network is located: directly connected to our equipment (localhost) or through a remote computer (connect to host). In my case, I select Localhost.
We choose where our network is located

We choose where our network is located
  4. In the next step we select the network interface with which we are going to scan the network. By default, the program will automatically detect the interface with which we are connected and that will be the one it shows us. In my case it shows a wireless interface wlan1 but if you are connected by cable you will see eth0 o eth1.
    We select the network interface

    We select the network interface
  5. Finally, we confirm the information that we have been entering and press the button Forward.
    We finish with the assistant

    We finish with the assistant
  6. The devices connected to our network appear shortly and AutoScan Network informs us of their IP addresses, their name, operating system, etc.
We check who is connected to our network

We check who is connected to our network

In addition, if we click on any of them, in the right panel, we can see detailed information about each of them. Do not stop trying it.

Detect intruders

Once we have scanned the network, we can activate the intrusion detection function. Thus AutoScan Network will notify us of any equipment or device that connects to our network.

  1. To detect the leeches (what do you call them one of some) that connect to our network press the button Intrusion Alert.
    Intruder Detect Button

    Intruder Detect Button
  2. And we read the notice that tells us that if we activate this function, the new equipment that is found will be considered intruders. As we are interested in activating the function, we click on Yes.
Any equipment that connects will be considered an intruder

Any equipment that connects will be considered an intruder
  3. Now we just have to wait for an intruder to connect.

Would this also work if you were a leech? Well too.

I hope you find it useful.

What's new Pablo? ... I hope you are phenomenal as always ... 😉

Since I had not passed through the site, I have been busy and in fact I do not have time more than for the day to day and little else, despite this I do not forget my favorite sites and, of course, when I need an application For the purpose of this entry, I looked around here ... these days the connection is a bit slow and my idea is to start discarding things before calling my provider ...

It is very easy to install and "configure" thanks to the wizard and of course to your magnificent explanation;) ... once the wizard is completed it recognizes all the devices connected to my network ... (mobile phone with android-which first recognized me without problems but after a second scan it shows me behind a firewall: Yes I imagine it will be some kind of device security - I have been using android for three days- it does not worry me much because I already put it as a "friend" -, a laptop with windows , the desktop computer - I'm testing it through a laptop with XP that I found and rescued from the trash 🙂 - and a multimedia hard disk connected to my network with which I share my files thanks to samba…:)….

It is also true that the bug you mention is very annoying ... having to re-scan every time you open the program ... in fact there is an option "save" to avoid this by saving an .xml file to load it at the beginning of the program (so indicates the developer on his page) ... but this .xml file seems to be that he does not save it anywhere, give it the path you give it ... despite this I see it very complete and useful to have it working in the background with the assurance that no one will misuse my connection ... (I really wouldn't mind having my connection open ... but unfortunately there are people who would take advantage of it for bad arts ...: (... this is as true as the sun set today) ... I have to try to see How does he react ... I will invite a friend to have coffee with his laptop to see how the sound warning works ... hahaha

Let's wait for next versions to see if this scan is corrected ... for now I will continue to browse the matter to see how I can squeeze it ...

Well, these are my impressions ... sorry for the extent of them ...

Receive a big hug and thank you for being there ...

    Javi

    … EPPPPPPPP …………… I didn't say anything: S

After closing here I went back to browsing and managed to save the .xml file to restore the scan and load it successfully ... I think I tried again as I tried for the first time ... but maybe it was my fault ...? ...

    Well just this…;)

Hello friend I tried to use nmap and nast to see the connected devices but with nmap it only detects me even when there are more connected to the network.

and with nast sometimes it shows them to all sometimes not and it does not show cell phones to which this error is due. Cheers
