Available Av Linux 6.0.1

Glen MacArthur had put an end to what for me is the best multimedia distro available to date. However, the excellent feedback received by Av Linux 6.0, a distro based on Debian Squeeze with LXDE as a graphical environment, has made him release a latest update in the form of Av Linux 6.0.1

Interestingly, I found out about its publication the same day that I resurrected a rather limited PC that had version 6 of this system.

Everything works perfectly, even with a very normal Creative X-Fi card. JACK starts up smoothly, holding steady for hours while I play Guitarix and the plethora of IR files Glen included in the distro's "extra goodies."

We can also launch Hydrogen Drum Machine in "auto mode", starting JACK if necessary, or change the server latency from the applications (read Guitarix) without major problem ... Everything is feasible in another distro (one of the few that includes Ardor-VST ), but the performance of a newly installed AvLinux is noteworthy. I have not yet installed this latest version but my fingers are already burning ...

You can see all the changes in this link. The big news are:

  • Kernel 3.6.11.2
  • All dependencies to compile Ardor3 (previously obtained from a Wheezy repository). Recall that Ardor has moved to monthly update cycles.
  • Guitarix 0.27.1
  • Mixbus 2.3 (demo).
  • SoundVisualizer 2.0
  • Rakarrack (guitar effects processor).
  • Hardvid, to add the video timeline to Ardor.
  • LibreOffice 4.0.3
  • New global menu for OpenBox.
  • And more: new plugins, more drumkits for Hydrogen, updated manual ...

Of course, there is a 42 minute video in Vimeo, but I leave you a shorter one:

Whoops! You want to dabble. I always end up pulling back with this distribution because I think it's only in English. Will you be able to switch to Spanish? And will you know by chance if you can put the sound management suite that the KxStudio (Cadence) have put together?
Greetings and thanks for the contribution

English is the only problem and no, as far as I know there is no other solution than to install the language packs for each program ... I don't think it's worth it.

Cadence and other family I understand that they are relatively easy to incorporate in other distros outside of KXStudio, you would have to do the test. In fact AvLinux 6.0 brings Carla, which is part of the Cadence "suite" software.

I also see that the people of KXStudio have a separate repository for Debian, we should try ...…

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/kxstudio/files/DEBs/repo-debian/

These are special packages compiled in the KXStudio Repositories that may be useful for a Debian user.
Some of them contain custom patches or fixes, usually for proper LADISH or JACK2 support. »

I'm going to test it in virtualbox to see how it works for me Thanks for the input again!

Cheer up! 😀 Although caution, I don't know how JACK will behave in a virtual machine 😀

I remember reading myself on the AV Linux website the possibility of abandoning the distro, so I am surprised that it continues. Of course, I'm glad. I had not tested the distribution further precisely because of its poor future, but now things change.

While it's not in Spanish I'm sweating what happens to this distribution.
A distribution that cannot be put in Spanish is not a distribution worthy of being on my computer so it is ruled out I prefer KxStudio or ubuntu studio that can be put in my native language
      regards

AvLinux is not supposed to continue, at least as such. For a relatively modest team, version 6.0.1 is perfect. Keep in mind that there are still studios that work with Windows XP. Right now, Debian-based multimedia distros remain, the rest have been abandoned for some time… Tango Studio is making a Debian version, but they have a lot of work to do.

That they go to Ubuntu Studio or Dream Linux, or Kxstudio or Musix (although it is somewhat forgotten) will not be for alternatives
      regards

What an excellent distro, it is the fastest I have used. I do not care if it is in English or not, little by little I will install the Spanish packages.
But a shame if, that the audio theme is something that comes by default in this distro. I do not understand how a distro focused on multimedia can drag theme of this class. Simply the audio here is null. I'm going to see if I can find an answer and solution to this problem.
