BackBox 2.01 is available, another distro for hacking / cracking

One of the many sites I frequent is DistroWatch.com, to ... among other things, see how it will ArchLinux in the ranking of the last 6 months. By the way, it is only separated by less than 100 points of Debian to occupy the place No.5 😉

The point is that I read than a new version of BackBox has seen the light. Honestly, I didn't know about this distro 😀
Back Box 2.01 came out on January 2, 2011, it's a distro based on Ubuntu designed specifically for tasks related to network security, forensic analysis, reverse engineering, reports, etc.
It is a DVD that is also LiveCD, in which you can find tools such as ettercap (v0.7.4.2), John the Ripper (v1.7.8), Metasploit (v4.2), Nmap (v5.51), Wireshark (v1.6.3), and many others.

About software a little more general, this version comes with Xfce 4.8, kernel Linux 2.6.38 and is based on Ubuntu 11.04.

I leave the download link of the .ISO:

Now ... you may wonder ... Yeah, what's up with this? ...

Just yesterday I was talking to a friend about breaching network security Wi-Fi, he told me that he had used WifiSlax, I told him that I once used BackTrack Well, the issue of applications, types of encryption for our networks and etc. came up.

The issue is that there are distros (BackTrack, WifiSlax and this BackBox) that bring the applications and tools that we would need if we want to violate (or check hehe) the security of Wifi networks, intercept data packets, intervene conversations, decrypt data, etc. In other words ... speaking in less technical terms, with these distros we can do the following:

  • Borrow the internet from our neighbor by entering his Wifi.
  • Knowing what our cute neighbor of the apartment is talking about through her MSN.
  • Depending on how secure the webmail our father uses is, we might know what emails he is reading and sending.
  • Make us (borrow) the username and password of any web account of someone close to us, that is, we could obtain the username + password of the account of a site where our sister is registered.
  • … And more, much more, as far as your imagination and knowledge can go.

I know that after reading this that I put, many will already be dreaming of entering the Facebook of your neighbor, planting erotic videos on the PC of the annoying neighbor they have, etc ... or did it not cross your mind? … LOL!!!
The point is that they do not believe that it is a simple thing, nor will it be a matter of 3 clicks and two [enter]These distros do, they facilitate the "work" but they do not work miracles, you must have at least a minimum of knowledge of data structure, know how to intercept packets, know in advance how those packets will be composed or at least be good at improvising, because of this It will depend on whether they can get the username and password (for example) successfully.

But this does not end here, as there is software that can circumvent this type of security, there is other software that prevents security from being circumvented. Referring to Wi-Fi networks, the most common is that passwords are used WEP, which are incredibly simple to 'borrow', but if the network is properly configured with WPA-2 and more encryption systems believe me that it will be really complex to achieve this, some would say that it is impossible (personally ... I have never managed to get a password from a VERY well configured Wifi).
And, referring to obtaining users and passwords from websites, if the password is not sent to the website in plain text (that is, if it is sent encrypted) then they would need to capture it, but to add the work that could be done in decrypting it. ... assuming you can 😀

Anyway, I do not know this distro, I have not tried it and to be honest I am not going to do it either.
First of all because it is based on Ubuntu 11.04, which is not totally negative but neither is it a positive point, and finally and more importantly because I don't need it. If I want to capture packages or something I install Wireshark In Myself Arch, if I want to do a network mapping or a port scan I install Nmap en Arch, the software you need will be available to install on my distro, as well as on the distro you use 😉

Greetings and ... be good and be good, I do not want complaints that they made "inventions" with the network of their neighbors HAHAHA!

PD: By the way ... Mint is almost 1000 points ahead of Ubuntu on DistroWatch… amazing…

XD really is a delight… 😉 I keep waiting Unity "stable" for arch ¬¬

Look up the code and compile it for Arch, so you don't wait

hahaha, I found on the web (AUR) that there is already a package but it is not stable yet

          I keep wondering Arch: S

hahahaha if I was joking, KZKG ^ Gaara started talking about a distro, half way he fills it with flowers, then he hits it on the floor and subtly slides the benefits of installing another distro ... hahahahahaha, I'm comfortable with LMDE

The post can be divided into several parts ... first I told you about this distro, its applications that come in this latest version and such.
Then I talked about what can be done with these types of ditros, and that BackBox is not the only option.
Then I commented that not everything is simple either, technical knowledge is required.
And finally I left my opinion about it, in which I comment that if you want to do some things, it is not totally mandatory to install a distro like this, because we can install the applications as such on our same computer with our preferred distro

I don't know hehe, it seems to me that this is more accurate than simply announcing the new version of the distro, right? 😀

        1.    moskosov said

hahahaha of course yes, the article is good, the narrative sinuosity and the unexplained conclusion that emerges at the end made me laugh.

I don't know why the hell hack distros take them to Ubuntu, the same with BackTrack with how well it was based on Slax, and on top of that, hack and security, for a secure base is Slackware.

It is a mania with passing everything to Ubuntu, but I imagine why, the peel is the peel
