I have been using manjaro for quite some time, although only a little with this distro, at the moment the best I have tried, it is very stable, quite updated programs and easy to install drivers and different kerners, I have been using 4 for several weeks and it is going great.
Being rolling realse, if they release 0.8.13 to go from the previous stable one, do we need to update with pacman or how is it going?
I am not sure if with pacman there is enough or it is time to reinstall to receive the new things.

The numbering is not a version itself, but the compilation uploaded in the ISO file.
And indeed, a "sudo pacman -Syu" is enough to update your system, you can even go from 0.8.11 or earlier directly to the latest compilation.

When Manjaro was updated to version 0.8.13 I was left without sound and no matter how hard I tried, there was nothing to do. Otherwise it is a magnificent distribution and in this latest update it has been very beautiful with the icons that have been put into it. I'm talking about Xfce which is the only Manjaro I've had since it came out.

To install it, is it the same as Ubuntu and its family? Or is it different in some step? Regards.

It is very similar, if you have installed ubuntu, you will not have problems with manjaro.

The problem I have with this new version is that it shows a black screen and the video is not seen in VLC; I use it in USB live, at the moment the one I keep is 8.11, it is the one that works well for me.

What plugin is it? I see that it works very well, especially if you search by word, it returns all possible matches examining each entry

You who know more and understand less, is it better to use yaourt or pacman? The only thing I know about pacman is to install packages from the official repository of manjaro and yaourt to install them from arch; when should I use one and the other. By the way, in addition to package management, there are other specific differences compared to, for example, Ubuntu in terms of management and use of commands (of course I already know that it is based on Arch). If you can suggest a manual on how to administer it in addition to the wiki 😉

The best thing is to use pacman, yaourt is for the AUR (Arch User Repository) repositories where the users themselves are responsible for uploading the applications.

    2.    joaco said

Use yaourt, do you know why? Because with yaourt you can install applications from the AUR, but also from the official repos. Also, when yaourt wants to install from the official repos it invokes pacman, so it is a tool that covers more.
Still there are several alternatives, not just yaourt, if you want you can investigate on the Arch wiki.

Manjaro is almost the same as Arch, everything you need can be found on the Arch wiki and the Manjaro wiki.

        ok I'll keep investigating, thanks

Manjaro is an excellent GNU / Linux distribution, one of the best in my experience. I have no complaints about this, and I'm still at 0.8.7.1 with XFCE. Too bad that from where I am I can't get hold of this new version.
