Available Slax 7 «Green Horn»

Version 7.0 of Slax, a distribution of which already we have talked in this blog and that offers us a complete collection of packages in just 210MB.

Slax comes with KDE 4.9.4, GCC compiler, more than 40 localization and language options and tons of applications. The incredible thing about this distribution is that it offers a complete Desktop Environment and its consumption is quite low.

You can download it in your favorite language from this link:

Download Slax

I plan to download the iso tonight to test it tomorrow and do a mini review 😀

Undoubtedly a very complete distribution, a pity that it has lost hold, because it is very good for its functions, in fact it appears in movies like "The social network", which indicates that during a certain time it had a lot of pull

What I saw in that movie was KDE 3.5, how do you know it was slax?

Big Elav !! We will wait for the Review, and then, if it convinces me, I also try it. And I am between Slax and Slitaz ..

Slitaz must be without a doubt lighter, I think it continues to use openbox and some things from LXDE, what I like about Slitaz is its apt-style package manager (tazpkg), and it has applications oriented to less powerful machines in its repository, it is very nice mini-distro, another good one is TinyCore, I haven't seen it for a long time, that's already a micro-distro.

    How much is reduced consumption?

Incredibly what one does not expect to see in KDE with effects activated 😀

Installed and without effects activated when booting it takes me 260 mb. a little less than Arch, but I get the feeling that Slax is more fluid.

Well, I just started it in a virtual machine with 256MB of RAM and it flies! 😀

yesterday I downloaded it and installed it in USB, but it only loads a pointer and a black background hahahaha the command line works fine, who knows, maybe it's because I downloaded the zip in Spanish… ..

I love Slax. If I'm not mistaken this is the first version with KDE4, right? They were quite late in their incorporation.

In fact quite polished compared to the previous version, although I liked KDE 3.5. On the one hand they have cut applications (surely to reduce the weight of the distro) leaving only the essentials, the rest in the repository (which is not yet running), although some other lightweight browser like Qupzilla (brings firefox) would have been good. On the side of the "artwork" it is very nice, from the boot loader to the desktop. Just started it occupies about 220 MB (choosing the option «copy to ram» at the beginning). I don't know if it's my machine but over time it loses "response", it's not a matter of memory (it's not using swap), I think it's because of the pendrive. The only thing missing is to see what they have done with the "Software Center", in previous versions the question of the "modules" was quite disorganized. It was definitely worth the wait.

I still have a CD with Slax Kill Bill from a few years ago… I used it to save my files when my Windows crashed. It was one of those CDs that solved your problem in panic situations. Hehehe .. What times.

    All the best
