The LibreOffice development team announced this week the availability of the first beta version of LibreOffice 7.1.
This new version adds new features to the various applications that make up the open source office suite, as well as some performance improvements.
New features added to Writer contour fold mode
The new features start with a contour fold mode in Writer. This allows collapsing the text under any title so that you only see the title, a useful function for sorting a current document.
A style inspector
LibreOffice 7.1 Beta adds a style inspector to Writer which, like similar tools In the web browser's document inspectors, LibreOffice inherited a problem from Microsoft Word and others, which is that word processors split into two fields as to whether they are structured or ad hoc.
Structured formatting, through paragraph styles and character styles, is a better approach in most scenarios, but more difficult for humans to understand.
That is why applications like Writer also support direct format in which the user selects a text and define its font and style. This can lead to some perplexity when the user changes the paragraph or character style, but the direct formatting remains in place. The style inspector will show you why.
Calc
calc, benefits from some fixes in cell merge and an option to disable a long-standing issue, which is when you copy a cell and then press return in a another cell, this triggers linking. ¡¡
Other improvements to Calc are:
- Added an option to disable paste with Enter key. It can be found in the "Tools / Options / LibreOffice Calc / General" menu dialog box.
- You can now select items in the autofilter window by clicking on all lines of the item, but not just by checking the box;
- Fixed an issue in the input area of the form when Calc does not set the reference of the form if you have enabled the function of freezing rows / columns on a sheet.
- Added "Reset All" button in Solver dialog.
Fill with merged cells
now it is possible to copy the structure of the merged cells as other worksheets do, as the merged area can be selected completely to correct the marquee selection while filling, correct the incomplete copy of the attributes, the grid and the border incorrect.
Improvements made to Impress and Draw
The presentation app Impress has new physical animation capabilities, allowing you to have objects falling, pulling left and right, or falling and fading. LibreOffice scripters benefit from a new set of libraries called ScriptForge, which can be called from Basic or Python with some useful features like spreadsheet automation, file and directory management, and a great set of functions for managing arrays, strings, and more.
Other changes to Impress and Draw:
- Add visible signatures to existing PDF files in Draw
- Now Impress now allows you to change the animations of several objects at the same time
- the presentation console now has an "Exit" button
- the presentation console now has a "Pause / Resume" button
- added soft and realistic blurred shadows for the objects
- Added new physics-based animation capabilities and new animation effect presets that use them. We distinguish
- simulation of fall, right / left and return shot, fall and crossfade
LibreOffice, Windows Arm64 and mobile devices
Finally, it is mentioned that as of LibreOffice 7.1, expanding the office suite should now be easier, due to a new "Additions" dialog that facilitates the installation of extensions, automated from a single dialog instead of a download process and manual installation.
In addition, there is also a first version of LibreOffice for Windows Arm64. Now that Apple has excited the world about the benefits of ARM PCs, it could prove significant.
