I thought XFCE had passed into oblivion, that its development was almost dead but it is not. The Team of this Desktop Environment continues working and some of its components are already available in version 4.11 with many changes and improvements.
xfwm

- The xfwm4-settings dialog uses less height.
- Padding on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab is fixed.

Changes and improvements that have been added, especially to xfdesktop, I love. I'm very glad to see that XFCE keeps evolving and improving.
En Webupd8 show us how to install and update XFCE in Ubuntu, always at your own risk 😉
Perfect!!!!
Thank you very much for the warning!!! I hope these changes come to Manjaro Xfce soon 😀
By the way, you have repeated things in Xfwm:
"Smart placement is optimized."
And two almost the same that come to say the same:
"Throttle handling improvements."
"Improved throttle handling."
Regards!
Thanks for the corrections compa.
However, for an outdated PC, Arch + XFCE would be a great fit.
I don't know if my i3 is already obsolete, but I use Arch + openbox and it runs like silk XD
In my humble opinion, I consider a PC with Pentium 4 and predecessors an obsolete PC. I have my PC with a Pentium D and KDE works for me as if it were XFCE.
If a Pentium 4 is obsolete, a Pentium D should be (even a Celeron Dual-Core of Core architecture performs better and running at half the frequency and consuming a fraction compared to a Pentium D or any Netburst, since this is not more than 2 Pentium 4 stuck together, but they are still Netburst, with a disastrous architecture.
But all this is relative, for example I consider any architecture processor before Core to be obsolete (with Core I mean the one used by Intel's Core2 and later, not to be confused) or before the Athlon64, for that matter. from AMD.
Great !! I have always loved XFCE, it is the DE that I currently use in Arch, I hope they will incorporate it into Arch soon, and, although I love XFCE as MATE, what worries me is the change they will have to make to GTK3, I am not a programmer but It would be good if a fork of gtk2 were developed or that some organization continues to support GTK2, since for me the DEs based on GTK2 are the best (from a personal point of view, nothing more).
A greeting.
The problem does not lie in GTK3 but in the exclusive case of Gnome that changes its API in each version. But GTK3 is better than GTK2. And as a perfect example that you can work with GTK3 is Cinnamon.
Thanks for the info. After KDE it is my favorite environment, but for now I will have to wait a long time for it to reach sid.
We're even. I like to use both XFCE and KDE, although the former is used as a GNOME 2 replacement for outdated PCs.
I'm glad Xfce keeps getting better, as it's the only simple yet pretty desktop left to me. The rest are too complicated or too simple, which is not bad for those who like to tune here and there or for those who seek minimalism. But what I want is to work with my computer and for that Xfce is a gem.
Greetings.

"Added support for Vsync composer".
: )
I wonder .. have they improved the tearing problem? I mean where the videos were split into two halves each with a delay time of milliseconds?
"Added support for Vsync composer."
- Add Vsync support for the composer (bug # 8898).
Vsync support was added to the composer.
Yes, supposedly with that you no longer have tearing. You have to wait for it to come out in a distro to test if it is. The truth is my only complaint about xfce, having to turn to other composers to avoid tearing.
It seems that they have FINALLY done it. I expected it to come out with the Xubuntu BETA but it still didn't fix that.
Let's see if for the launch of the stable version they manage to add that.
if Xubuntu <= 13.04 has tearing it leaves a lot to be desired, how is it possible that the composer has not been changed?
Even though I have switched to Openbox, I still use a lot of Xfce tools mainly because they are complete enough while remaining simple and easy to configure.
One of my favorite projects 😀
I like xfce, it just needs a better composer, I think it should have both options for obsolete PCs and others not so much, the ones they have are not bad I wanted to show off xfce but in the end I couldn't and gave up haha. The truth between gnome, kde and xfce I prefer xfce for color tastes hahahaha. And I hope they better port the lightment libraries would be great from my point of view instead of gtk.
very good news! and I hope that the move to gtk3 will be soon even if it is in beta to see how it behaves
The corrections are very good because the other gave one or another little problem although compatibility problems will always be for that are the updates
And starting to enjoy the best desktop, reading this, I LOVE IT.
And they fixed the problem that when putting fullscreen in the games the XFCE panel is still seen on top? so far the only way I have to fix that is by leaving the panel self-hiding, but that's not a real solution.
If it is a solution .. maybe it is not the most appropriate, but it solves 😀
With what graph is that happening to you?
Uh! I haven't installed a distro for a thousand years.
After this impass, since today I have a personal laptop and not a laburo one, I installed a Mint 15 with MATE. I had forgotten how fast GNU / Linux flows. I did not feel like reneging on my dear Slackware, I prefer something automatic later, with time and patience, return to the Big S.
Since we are… User reviews needed.
MATE has shown me high and simple configurability and little consumption of resources.
Does this version of XFCE (I used to use Xubuntu about 5 years ago before switching to Vector and then Slackware), does it have similarities in performance and configurability with respect to MATE 1.6?
How nice to feel the taste of freedom again ...
For a moment I read «Black Violator» o_O
Any command to know what version of Xfce I have installed on my computer?
What distro do you use?
Xubuntu 13.04
You have Xfce 4.10 for sure.
In the applications menu you can click on about Xfce or in the package manager it will also put it "for example the package xfdesktop4 I have version 4.10.2".
What is the difference with 4.12? Is this that has come out the stable version?
version 4.12 does not have a release date yet, from this link you can see how things are going. http://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.12/roadmap
I forgot, version 4.11 is for development, if you use it it is at your own risk. If I remember correctly the odd versions are only for tests.
stamina xfce!
this environment is one of the best, I look forward to the full xfce 4.11
