Xubuntu 12.10 available with new offline documentation

We already talked about Ubuntu y Kubuntu 12.10 and of course, the version with Xfce is not far behind, and is that Xubuntu It has also acquired new improvements for the benefit of its users.

New Features in Xubuntu 12.10

Xubuntu now use Xfce 4,10, which takes advantage of all the changes and improvements that this Desktop Environment has obtained in this version. As a very important step from my point of view and something to be thankful for, a renewed offline Documentation is included.

In the application menu, all launchers related to settings are now grouped together in Settings Manager. Artwork was also renewed, including new wallpaper, updates in LightDM, greybird and the slideshow in Ubiquity. The latter also corrects some errors that it presented in the transition.

Xubuntu community

In addition to all the updates and changes mentioned above, the Xubuntu team has worked hard on community and marketing tasks. The content of the Xubuntu website has been fully updated and Xubuntu now has various social media.

I love Xubuntu, I feel that the vercionitis is already biting me but I better hold on, I still have 2 years and 6 months so that my LTS is already discontinued.

Haha, not at all, what happens is that these things are good to report, even when the Internet is full of this type of news .. 😉 And I am missing Lubuntu, but since it is not official, and since I have no arguments to talk about it distro, well ... I have not put anything about it.

XFCE is not made by the Xubuntu folks. Do not thank them but the developers of XFCE who did fight to make it polished.

Fantastic Xubuntu. A distribution that surprised me by its lightness, maintaining a very comfortable and pleasant design.

I am glad that you have dedicated a (small) entry to this "small" distribution.

    Greetings.

Not as much as Xubuntu as Xfce, but I myself have talked a lot about both in this blog. 🙂

    Hi Elav!

At last! What good news you give me! And what a surprise: I thought that Ubuntu 12.10 was going to be released in the "twenties" of October and that the respective Xubuntu would appear in the first days of November. This weekend I will install it on my computers that currently have 11.10 and 12.04.

Both Xubuntu and Kubuntu have become excellent options since they were handed over to the Community.

Great news. I've been using Xubuntu 12.04 since it came out ... now I have to see if I update or stay on the LTS.

    Greetings.

Well to try it, I love this distro. Let's see if I can get the Ubuntu theme (ambiance) installed on this one and it's perfect.

Well, at the moment I have not been able to install Xubuntu, I do not know what happens, it gets hooked in the second step of installing, I have tried Ubuntu and it happens the same. At the moment I am with Linux Mint xfce that has allowed me to install it. What a chore, if Xubuntu is my distro !!

It is true that the people of Xubuntu got the batteries already with the previous version (12.04) and this confirms the good direction they have taken. The fact that the aesthetic aspect is taken very seriously (http://shimmerproject.org/about/) both on the web and in the distro already indicate the degree of commitment of all those involved.
I will try to install it on my computer to say goodbye to Linux Mint Debian Edition Xfce, a good attempt but it has ended in failure, in fact they have made many of the mistakes that were made in Xubuntu before 12.04.

    Hello!

I have been visiting this site for a long time and the truth seems to me that it is very good, although I have only registered now. I wanted to ask you a question, sorry for my clumsiness ... Is it possible to update to Xubuntu 12.10 from my current version (the previous one, «Precise pangolin») keeping all my user preferences, programs and etc ...? (… Come on, like who updates their Firefox) Is this recommended for an extremely clumsy and useless newbie in Linux like me? (I assume it is the truth).

I take this opportunity to send you a greeting and congratulate the author / authors of this blog for their great informative work. When I decided to switch to Linux (now definitely) it was thanks to this site and the advice I was reading here. I think a blog is clear, honest, practical, with a good design and I stop making the ball for you hahaha .. no seriously, it's great. For those who do not know much and want to discover, it is the best I have found on the net.

    a greeting.
    Oscar

By the way, I am a Xubuntu user, I comment on it because the Ubuntu icon appears.

The Xfce is a great concept, especially for those who have a very normal order like mine.

    Greeting!

I came from using Fuduntu 2012.04 on an AAOD255E netbook with 2GB RAM and it was flying, what I did not like is the issue of partitions and its wiki in English and I found no page that gave help or information on the use of some commands and applications, like this I installed Lubuntu 1210 but it seems to me that it is heavy, not as fluent as Fuduntu or even earlier when I had tried Kubuntu 11.04 and LinuxMint KDE my machine was not that slow, I am downloading Xubuntu and I hope it works for me.

    1.    Germaine said

Sorry to comment from the hateful W $ but I use it only for the IDM, I have not found its replacement in Linux, the JDownloader sometimes works, sometimes not, (in fact I uninstalled it) in Kubuntu the KGet is eternal ... and not even with FlashGot or Aria2 I have been able to achieve the speed or integration of IDM, if you know of a similar one please recommend it.

    It's suoer good ...

Only when downloading packages and updates THE THING GETS SLOW.

I do not know if it is necessary to change for the main server instead of my country, we will have…. I'm testing it little by little
