The best Linux desktop: August 2014 - Results

With some delay, the 10 best desktops of the month of our followers arrive in Google+, Facebook y Diaspora. It was really very difficult to decide because they sent us excellent captures. However, some really good specimens were left out of the final list for not including the necessary details (system, environment, theme, icons, etc.). Please don't forget to include them next month and remember to use the hashtag #showyourlinuxdesktop when posting your captures.

As always, there is a very interesting variety of distros, environments, icons, etc. To learn, imitate and enjoy! Will yours be on the list?

Well, it was time for KDE!

Let's see if for the next one I show up ^^

One thing, I don't know if more people will be bothered, but… have you thought about uploading the images to imgur or another service outside of Google+? I have Google basically blocked in my browser (except for googleapis and when you have to enter a captcha), and it is a toothache to have to activate all its scripts and redirects to see an image.

Desktop 9 and desktop 3 are better, although 9 is with KDE it looks very good like the e lxde, it would be good if each desktop contestant leaves a link informing step by step to make the desktop and so many users Windows itself is encouraged to try Linux… .., as well as Linux newbies we can try other desktops.

They are not only in G +… it depends on where the users have shared the images. It can be G +, Facebook or Diaspora. Although, to be honest, G + usually win.

Instead of so much desktop to see if we can do what we can do and try to explain the various programs as it is done in windows, otherwise we always remain. I have the ugliest desktop in the world, but the most functional, since if I want to record a cd, dvd, blue ray, i can, if i want to write a document or database or powerpoint, i use free office, if i want to read comics i use comix, or pdf multreaders ,, etc, i use chrome and firefox, i use spotify, i use the gimp, for cad files I use the free cad, fatrat or jdownloader to download the files, transmission for torrents, amule for p2p, vlc for videos, steam for k3b games like nero …………….

Well, that also find out yourself, don't be lazy like Windows users, who want everything at hand ... without wanting to battle.

Computers are certainly becoming more and more important in our lives. People must learn how they work, I don't know of anyone who drives without knowing that the car needs oil (I know of someone who did not know that it must be changed, but that is another matter). Attacks that breach security one time after another demonstrate this. I'm not talking about programming, knowing how to use the terminal and stuff, just to be clear.

I recommend that you read our section «For newbies» (see the menu above).

Today I found a symbol that you would like:

    ≺ •

Doesn't sound like your logo xD

    1.    elav said

How do you do it? 🙂

      1.    roader said

I think it does with this unicode character http://unicode-table.com/en/2022/
And if there are suddenly 3 comments, it's WordPress' fault. He does not publish the comments and tells me that they are duplicates.

        UTF-8 symbol tables

        hex
        0x227a = ≺
        0x2022 = •

        http://www.csbruce.com/software/utf-8.html

It's amazing how many chirimbolos you can put with UTF-8.

And how do you know if the one I've made is pretty or ugly?

      2.    elav said

A STOP at this point. Now do not fall into a debate that has nothing to do with the subject. Let's use linux here and explain the reasons why your desktop has not been selected Juanse.

    2.    let's use linux said

Hello raalso7 ... do not decline. This month more than 100 people participated. It is difficult for you to be chosen, hence the competition is more fun.
One of the reasons why several are disqualified (I do not know if it was your case) is because they do not explain well what desktop environment they use, what distro, etc.
      See you next month!
      Hug! Paul.

      1.    raalso7 said

Well, thanks for the answer, I had not fallen in all the people who participate ... next month I will try again, I think I explain everything well, but good. Thanks for the good support you have in this blog, in others they don't even look at the comments.

It's called having a life besides the blog. 🙂
We always try to post at least once a day, but sometimes we can't.

The ninth is plasma 5? I say this because I tried to install it in gentoo and I was not able to.

    1.    elav said

I do not think. If you look at the terminal it says 4.14, and that's not the new plasma. What you should have is a similar Plasma theme and the window decorator imitating the new KWin using Aurorae, and all of that can be found in KDE-Look.

Incredible how half of the desks have the numix-circle icons ...

It seems that Microsoft imposed its flat design on Apple and Linux users alike.

My everyday desk may not be as nice as the ones that appear here, but it is functional. Sometimes I feel that so much flourish interferes with daily work. That doesn't mean that these desks look great 🙂

By the way, about desktop 4, I loved the wallpaper. Where did he get it from?
