Caledonia: beautiful theme for KDE plasma

Malcer, our friend and admin. from the excellent blog Ext4, has published a beautiful theme for KDE plasma that will leave more than one speechless.

Next, Malcer himself describes the new features of the latest version of Caledonia ...

Caledonia, is a theme for Plasma-KDE that started as a fork of “Ember”. A few days ago the version 0.7, with many improvements that improve the result for me. And it is that the theme, logically, is made according to my tastes and for a rather personal use, and for that reason it embodies each of the ideas I have about what a possibility of a perfect theme for the KDE desktop would be for me.

First of all, the theme has been totally compressed to SVGZ components, leaving behind the simple SVGs that take up more space on our hard drive. The panel is now darker and slightly more opaque, and in general the grayish black of the previous version is abandoned to bet on a more authentic black.

The systray icons they abandon that metallic or glazed effect so popular in KDE to become something flatter and smoother. I have retouched the Choqok icon (which now, in my opinion, looks more stylized and closer to the Twitter logo), and we have new icons for the notification area, Akregator, Kopete, battery and external devices. Similarly, there are new icons for the RSSNow and MicroBlogs plasmoids. A review of the colors has also been done.

Continuing with the plasmoids, the scrollbars or scrolling bars that we can see in applets such as "Folder View" are new, and the truth is that it is a last minute change, because I did not count on having it so fast. I was designing some very similar to the ones he looks now, but these I have taken from the theme “E-Plasma”, and it is just how I wanted. So, scroll bars are now much more minimalist and according to the style that I want to give it.

And usually, edge smoothing and a sleeker black than above. Just need see screenshots of the previous version and compare them with the new one and we will see that the change is very remarkable.

Remember that you can install it by downloading the package Kde-Look or directly from the KDE wizard for this purpose in the system preferences (System Settings). And just from there you have the option to update it if you are already using previous versions. If after installing / updating it you cannot see as it should, it is probably a problem with the Plasma cache, so it is convenient to restart your user session so that the cache reloads properly.
