- Calligra, the multiplatform, free and open source office suite born from KOffice, has launched a new version. It includes numerous small improvements in each and every one of the applications that are part of it. |
All applications, in general, have improved their graphical interface in one way or another, and each one of them has added new features. Words substantially improves table editing, text ordering around images, and bibliography support. In Sheets, the cell editor now has its own dock, a feature highly anticipated by users. Also, in general terms, new filters are included to import and export files, improving compatibility, especially with OOXML. To see a complete list of news, it is recommended to access the release notes.
In addition to launching Calligra Suite 2.5, they release a new QML-based version for potential KDE tablets called Calligra Active.
Installation
En Ubuntu and derivatives:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: kubuntu-ppa / backports
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install calligra
For those who do not know, it is important to mention that, being based on Qt, Calligra is also available for OS X and Windows, although I must admit that it is not the most powerful suite for these platforms.

I did not like it, it may be a little more integrated with MSOffice but it does not allow saving in .doc format also it lacks a lot, for now I will continue with LibreOffice in version 3.6.0.1 that has improved a lot, I come from Windows from my whole life but now I am very happy with LinuxMint13 Maya KDE 64 bit and I don't need anything from Redmond and the like.
I agree with you, it still has a long way to go to even think about replacing LibreOffice in intensive use, and even if you rush me to OOo, but hey, encourage them to keep working on it, of course!
I have tried it and it is very simple to use, what stands out the most is the good integration with Microsoft office formats (in this aspect it seemed better than libreoffice) on the other hand, the interface makes it very easy to learn to use it. super intuitive something that libreoffice lacks is a more modern interface like calligra, on the other hand from what I could see it is not as complete as libreoffice but it is a very good alternative that should be kept in mind because it advances quickly.
Congratulations for the help you give to those of us who are not very skilled in handling Linux software, but who think that this team like yours makes Linux the best tool in every sense of computer support.
You're welcome!
