Changes in the next Nautilus

At Ayatana discussion group There is an intense debate going on to see how to implement one-click file and folder selection in Nautilus instead of using a "complicated" key combination: Ctrl + Mouse click as is currently the case.

Here are the first drafts of what Nautilus might look like with support for this functionality.

In the first draft there is a checkbox to select multiple folders and files, as is currently the case in the Dolphin explorer that comes by default in KDE. Another checkbox accompanies the object when hovering the mouse over it and a message to cancel the operation appears in a floating status bar, because, as we saw in another post, Ubuntu will abandon the use of traditional status bars and will seek to replace them with Windicators and floating status bars.

In the third and final draft, the user has to use the "drag handle" to (de) select multiple folders and files, thus avoiding the use of checkboxes.
