Convert to ogg / ogv, webm or mkv on Linux with OggConvert

On many occasions we need to convert a video to .OGV .MKV (Matroska) or .WEBM for our smartphone, to upload it to a website or for something else. Although using the terminal we can achieve this (with mencoder or ffmpeg), not everyone likes to always use commands and that is precisely why I share this application 🙂

With OggConvert They can convert to these three formats with a few simple clicks, just select the video you want to convert, select the format and voila (by default it converts to .ogv):

As you can see, it also allows us to define the sound and video quality.

But not only this, where it says Video format you can specify the codec to use (Theora, Dirac or VP8) and below if they click Advanced the option of File format, whereby they can change to.mkv either .webm

As you can see, a simple and easy to use application 🙂

Well nothing more ... I hope this helps several.

regards

I think avidemux and handbrake already do that job well! 🙂

There is no way that what turns into handbrake will be seen on the DVD, I have put how much codec it accepts and nothing ... the quickest & dirty solution I have seen is to emulate tmpgencoder with wine but I find it somewhat demoralizing, I am still committed to handbrake ..

Avidemux does not understand OGV at all. I've been converting them with mencoder or avconv via command line. In the end I made a little program in Python and I am so happy with it.

well the ogv do not interest me, since the codecs they use are much inferior, prefer mkv + x264

The video recorder I use (RecordMyDesktop) only produces OGV. And to upload it somewhere or pass it on to my contacts I have to convert it to something they understand.

You have Arista or Winff that are a pipe. or else the DeVeDe if you want also converts you before burning the DVD

Partner .. a question. Do you know that the KDE PrntScr option has the option to print only the window that is under the cursor, right? I mean, no rare funds or anything .. 😀

    Very good tip.

Yes, I know, but then the shadow behind the window is lost a bit ... I don't know, I don't like it being like this

      … I'm weird, you know… LOL!

Gara what you think of this discussion on Google+ on the LibreOffice page.

A very hot discussion. What do you think about it ?

It will be worth developing code and icons for LibreOffice.
I will take your opinion into account.
I hope I am not painted.

          Hello, how are you?
Sorry for the delay, now I can reconnect.

Regarding whether or not it is worth developing code and icons for LibreOffice, of course it is!
In fact, if 'something' could be done so that later any user could change the icons without the process being extensive or complex, it would be better 😀

          Thanks for your work

Gaara you who are otaku: 3 what free format would be more convenient to convert anime series and movies that are in mkv and others in mp4 to a free or better understanding format without so much loss

    1.    pandev92 said

x264 is a free implementation of h264 ..., a free format that is worth it for anime none, if you have good eyes, the one that is closest to h264 is vp8 / webm ..., but come on, it's still miles in quality and compression…..

      1.    makubex uchiha said

okis grax men for the data, I will do a test with vp8 / webm see if it meets my expectations in quality xD

    2.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

Exactly, H264 is without a doubt one of the best options, as pandev said.
