CrossOver 20.0 arrives based on Wine 5, support for Chrome OS, greater support for Linux and more

Recientemente Codeweavers developers announced the new version of their product "CrossOver 20.0"version that its developers boast of coming with very good changes and of them focused on supporting the next version of macOS 11.0 Big Sur, in addition to mentioning that they have improved game compatibility, including compatibility with Steam and with many games from DirectX 11.

For those readers who don't know CrossOver yet I can tell you that this is a commercial utility that allows you to run popular Windows applications on Unix systems (Linux or Mac) without the need for a Windows installation. It is a derivation of WINE with several patches added, and easier to use configuration tools.

Crossover is produced by CodeWeavers, which employs several WINE programmers and contributes code to the open source WINE project according to GNU LGPL, that is: it is one of the main contributors to the Wine project, sponsors its development and returns to the project all the innovations implemented for its commercial products.

I have to mention that this software, despite being based on Wine, is not free, so in order to use it you will have to pay for a license.

What's new in CrossOver 20

In this new version of CrossOver 20 some very interesting news are presented and one of them is in the redesign of the brand, Not only did the website have a new look, but the design was modernized and new branding elements were introduced.

Another novelty and perhaps the most outstanding is the Chrome OS support with which now not only users will be able to run Android and Linux applications, but also they will be able to run Windows apps on recently released Chromebooks.

Another change that stands out from CrossOver 20 is that it includes showing the application's "rating" (how well it is likely to work) within CrossOver.

In addition, software base is upgraded to Wine 5.0 base with which all the changes, improvements and above all a greater support are added, which also directly benefits the support for more Linux distributions.

Plus, Linux builds have self-service updates built in.

On the other hand, within the most prominent changes of this new version, the added support for macOS 11 and that also when started on macOS, it providedto the ability to use DirectX 11 and support for the Steam service has been improved.

In addition to all those changes, we continue to work hard on Wine, making extensive changes that improve general support for all applications. Thousands of these improvements have been incorporated into CrossOver and should improve the behavior of many applications.

And finally, with the launch of CrossOver 20, we've launched a whole new set of brands. This includes a new visual look for CrossOver that reflects our passion for providing disruptive support for Windows on alternative platforms.

Finally, because Chrome OS support is "new" within the software, free trials are being offered for those interested in being able to try Crossover on Chrome OS.
