Damn Small Linux is back

Through DistroWatch I just found out that the mini-distro is back Damn Small Linux, for lovers of minimalism.

Almost 4 years have passed since the last stable version Yesterday John Andrews announced the availability of version 4.11 release candidate.

DSL is able to efficiently accomplish the following:

  • Boot from a card format CD to a separate environment from your hard drive.
  • Boot from a USB stick.
  • Booting * into * a host OS (for example, it can be booted into Windows).
  • Running seamlessly from a Compact Flash IDE card using a method we call "frugal installation."
  • Transform to a traditional Debian distribution after installing on a hard drive.
  • Keep a 486DX running acceptably fast with 16MB of RAM.
  • Running full from memory in as little as 128MB (you'll be amazed at how fast your computer really is!).
  • Grow modularly - DSL is highly extensible without the need for customization.

As I have read, Puppy Linux It is light but it does not start on a 486 machine, personally I think those machines are no longer used, so I do not know if that point is really an advantage.

For those who want to try it:

I agree on both. The two smallest distros that I like. Third would put Puppy.

Looking at the forums, a discussion between John Andrews and Robert Shingledecker (and the latter's departure) caused the project to stall.

It would really be very good to see DSL again in the Cuban scene, I haven't seen that for a long time except in FLISOL, where one always wears almost all the "crown jewels."
