Coming soon: Debian GNU / kFreeBSD

I had it planned a while ago and if everything goes well, by next week I may already have my Debian but with him Kernel de freeBSD.

The first thing I want to test is the performance of the system using a Kernel different from the one I'm already used to. The good thing about this is that in theory I can still use the same packages from the repository Squeeze or Wheezy.

The second thing I need to test is how the drivers behave Intel because I'm still using the kernel 2.6.32-5-686. And finally, the third thing I want to test is how the packages behave in general and the installer.

Now I just need to download the . Iso if I ever can 😀

I leave you some general information about this version of Debian drawn from Wikipedia:

Debian GNU / kFreeBSD is an operating system released by the project Debian for i486-compatible computer architectures. It is a distribution of the operating system GNU with package management system (APT) de Debian, and the core of FreeBSD, different from most other variants of the GNU that take the Linux kernel.

It should be noted that the k de kFreeBSD refers to the fact that only the kernel is used. FreeBSD. Since FreeBSD is a complete operating system, it is important to indicate that the kernel of FreeBSD for this version of Debian is modified to work with the libraries of GNU. Another version is also made with the core of NetBSD called Debian GNU / NetBSD. It is an alternative to the core Linux, following the philosophy of Debian to have the best for developers and users.

Everything is that you can download the iso. Although of course, I am not so crazy, first I have to try in a virtual machine, it is not going to be a thing that everything goes to shit

Interesting to test in a virtual machine! already to install on a hard disk there must be many problems with drivers and available software

I don `t believe. Remember that it only uses FreeBSD as Kernel but all packages are the same as Debian. I've been reading about it and according to them they say, in theory, if Xorg is compatible with your graphics card, it should work the same on GNU / Linux as it does on FreeBSD.

My computer has a small partition that I use for testing. As soon as it comes out I'll see if I can install it.

    Greetings.

Did you do the experiment in the end? I'm interested to know how it performs compared to a normal Debian.
