Diazepan's Coplas for the Death of SolusOS

solusOS_logo

Something dies in the soul
when a friend goes
from this world

Today they already clap it
two: Manolo escobar
y SolusOS

I'll start talking about the second
since the first we do not
interested

Today Ikey came to announce
that cannot cope with everything,
with sadness

What once was a
pretty debian daughter,
promising

of Ge-no-me more ease,
best use and beauty
was coming back

a separate project
with barely strong support.
so it was

that his fate was sung
and that I would find death
unborn.

Many things have happened,
many updates,
more promises,

Your packages have changed
to Pisi, forks,
many tests.

A stagnant project
at their bus factor
equal one

Of which he came telling us
the Andalusian pelado
great.

Your code will follow
alive and ready
of anyone

In github it will be hosted
for a developer
something want

And with these verses of mine,
my broken foot couplets,
and without lame

I say goodbye to you
That they have been to your liking
bye.

It reminds me of my tuna times. I intended to jump into my distrohopper days to SolusOS, but I stayed on openSUSE so I can't talk much about it.

  2.   Yoyo said

    I do not like you!!!

One against the world, you couldn't take it anymore, it was predictable.

In a way I resemble Ikey, he with his SoluOS and I with my Blog. I've changed my mind so many times and I've gone back and forth so many times.

By the way, whoever wants to consult all the details of the closure, and in Spanish, can do it here http://yoyo308.com/2013/10/24/solusos-echa-el-cierre-gracias-por-todo-ikey/

      ROFLMAO !!!!

Anyway, I hope to look good if I get alopesia or trim all my hair at will.

Joking aside, the project is only in a coma, so it doesn't mean that it is totally dead as is the case with Fuduntu. The truth is that the communal nature of SoluOS gives it the advantage of reviving from the dead and / or reincarnating with another name and / or characteristics (including that it is an open project).

Do you know if this affects the consort desk?

      1.    DanielC said

Consort was already dead, at least as a fork of Gnome 3 using it totally like Gnome 2 (a fallback but improved), Ikey had already chosen to develop a desktop fork of Gnome Shell.

        1.    erunamoJAZZ said

I think you are a bit out of date, because consort was already being developed in Qt.

          1.    DanielC said

You are talking about a month ago, I am talking about this that a few days ago on your blog:
            http://yoyo308.com/2013/10/21/solusos-y-numix-se-unen-en-un-proyecto-llamado-numix-dx-numix-desktop-experience/

          2.    DanielC said

            * that Yoyo put days ago on his blog.

  3.   elav said

Well, at least Ikey left with a new PC thanks to The Community and leaving many waiting for Consort and other goodies .. U_U

    1.    DanielC said

I was waiting for it to come out and use it with fuduntu (which I still think would have been perfect for both of us. We will never know), but both projects have already thundered !! 🙁

It's a shame that Ikey prefers to abandon ship rather than merge the project with some other distro.

It's a shame because it was one of the distributions that made me approach Debian to never leave it again (with Gnome even though Elav doesn't like it), I like many started with Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and that I was very disappointed, time then I gave it a try on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron and had it in a partition, one good day 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS arrived and I was fascinated.

I took a Fedora 12 course at the UNAM School of Engineering and installed CentOS on my PC and one day SolusOS GNU / Linux arrived, a distortion so clean and attractive that it made me move to Debian 6 Squeeze, today I use Debian Wheezy in my lap on my PC and I'm fascinated.

Goodbye SolusOS you will always be in my memory and on a rescue CD just in case.

      1.    alliance said

I also got to know Debian through SolusOS and now I use Debian thanks to SolusOS.

    3.    alliance said

Ugly comment, Elav, I love how now the "Community" is on top of Ikey to try to bury him more. Just what Ikey himself denounced before, the pressures of the media did a lot to sink him.

  4.   vr_rv said

It's a shame, with how good it is ..
I would like him to continue working on Consort (which was going to port it to Qt) at least. It won't be as much work as maintaining an entire distro.

    1.    dwarf said

actually left it for modifying Gnome Shell 3.10

  5.   eliotime3000 said

Thanks, Diazepan for making me laugh with such sad news. I just hope I can take time to take a look at that distro.

  6.   stormrider.of.theli said

This was coming. SolusOS was a project with no clear objectives. First that if they made a fork of Gnome, then that they changed packages, then that they would be based on Qt, etc.

If it was a one-person project, all the more reason it was first of all to be clear about where you want to target, to focus your efforts on these objectives. In the end I think that it has ended up wearing out precisely because of this, for not knowing what to do or where to direct a distro that at the time filled many people with enthusiasm.

    1.    cooper15 said

Certainly Ikey never had a clear goal, changing course so many times was his failure, personally I was very fond of him until they announced the change to .pisi, that was like an insult to my XD. He frankly promised so much that he delivered nothing.

      1.    Steve said

Certainly. He never accepts criticism with his ego. I left the distro more than a year ago. In a blog I saw their answers and I said to myself - I have nothing to do with SolusOS. Bye !

Another one in the garbage can, what a waste of effort and talent, Fudunto, SolusOS,… etc… .etc…. I hope the same does not happen with elementaryOS ..

    1.    Tammuz said

eOS will not disappear so quickly because it is ubuntu with different colors, it was the chronicle of an announced death and one more sign that we must join forces in large projects

The first thing that occurred to me when I read the headline ...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHQ-_bf9NFI

A shame because it always seemed to me that it offered very interesting things but it was to be expected as they have already mentioned, a lot of work for one person and above considering that it was in their free time

However, his action proposal seems even more sensible and it would seem fantastic to see again news of a person who, as he contributes to the community

  10.   nosferatuxx said

A lot of work if we consider that in addition to developing SolusOS, he is a contributor to peppermint linux as far as I could find out by googling a bit.

And who knows, maybe your desktop consort will continue to develop but with a view to implementing it in peppermint, you never know what may come.

  11.   carlosigls said

Honestly, I did not understand why Debian left base. Now all this work done after, what good has it been?

    1.    diazepam said

From what I read, I was tired of patching every package that came in due to ruining the desktop I was creating.

      1.    pepper said

But if the patches made them a gnome, they shouldn't have

deep down I had a lot of projects and good ideas, but I didn't finish a single one

  12.   pandev92 said

Normal, when making the change to pisi and leaving the debian base, they screwed everything up…., And so we are waiting for a consort in qt and wayland that will never appear.

  13.   eliotime3000 said

Let's see if I can upload the audio version of these verses tonight.

    POET POET POET
Standing before such a distinguished architect of the language, I bow to your sensitivity, master!

    That's why I use Debian.

  15.   giskard said

How to say "I TOLD YOU"?
So much that they put this distro through the skies and leagues it was clear that it was not going to last. In the end, fanaticism always crashes against harsh reality.
    Anyway. I TOLD YOU.

  16.   pepper said

the developer was very changeable, Solus Os 2 was almost ready., and suddenly it changes from package to pisi and starts all over again,

  17.   dhunter said

The challenge is not to create a distro but to maintain it, so I believe more in contributing to those already established. Better to unite than to separate.

  18.   Federico said

I find it blasphemous what you said that the first one does not interest us.
He is a great person who has already stopped being with us.
Show more respect and rectify what you have said about our late Manolo Escobar

    1.    elav said

Who was Manolo Escobar? However, I don't think the author said it "because he doesn't care who it was", but because it sure has nothing to do with Free Software. Or if?

      1.    diazepam said

Exactly. It has nothing to do with SolusOS

  19.   rock and roll said

I don't want to be disrespectful or detract from the developer's work, but I think from the beginning SolusOS was, as the popular saying goes, a lot of noise and few nuts.
But hey, we have eight hundred other distributions, even though most of them are just simple makeups from 8, 10 that take the whole load.

  20.   alliance said

It seems that the topic inspired you and that you are very happy that SolusOS passed away.

I didn't expect to read something like that.

    Sad. Yours and SolusOS.

    1.    diazepam said

In another post I comment that it does not make me happy.
