Enable one-touch click function on the Gnome touchpad

GNOME touchpad

Sometimes many GNOME users find ourselves in the terrible situation of not being able to configure the touchpad from the configuration center that this desktop environment provides.

To solve this problem:

  1. Let's access the terminal.
  2. "No need to login as root", we put the following command in the terminal:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad tap-to-click true

Another way:

synclient TapButton1=1

Conclusion:

At this point in life, problems like these should not happen, the environment should provide a graphical user interface in order to configure the hardware of our PC. There are people like my parents, who have no idea how to enable these functions, and in the end they end up using the competitor's system.

I say goodbye, I hope you find it useful.

In gnome tweak tool the option does not appear? I mean, I have not really noticed but I would like to know if it can be done from there (I think so) and there was also an option from the nautilus itself that allowed you to open with a click, I will check it and later I will answer you if it was like that or if it was with the tweak tool.

LOL sorry, I read wrong. Could it be a driver problem?

YOU? gnome version ?. Maybe it is a problem of some particular version.

You are very right, the "linux" family should, regardless of the distro we have, have graphical options for people who do not know how to handle the terminal. Some time ago I read in a blog that "Linux is a system that is studied" we have to do everything possible so that everyone can use it, if they do not cross out they will go to that other system that I do not want to name or remember.

If the option does not appear in the image you show, it is due to a problem with the drivers. It is not a Gnome Shell problem.

      That's what I thought.

Sorry but this has NEVER happened to me, maybe it's because I use Fedora that it offers a 100% pure Gnome

I am convinced that neither in Ubuntu Gnome nor in Debian this does not happen.

This is a particular error, of some version and / or distribution, since I can verify that in Funtoo it does not happen.

It is my first comment in the linux world, I decided to install ubuntu 16.04 after completely abandoning windows 8. Thank you very much Raul P for your contribution, I was able to enable the click of my touchpad with the second option that you placed synclient TapButton1 = 1. This keeps me on linux. Thank you

Open terminal (or menu) and write: dconf-editor (dconf editor in Spanish). When it opens, go to:> org> gnome> desktop> touchpad> [tap-to-click (true) activate the box or box to the right of the previous menu]. Ready, we can use the click with the touchpad. I have written it this way so that any user, no matter how beginner, can understand it. Kind regards to all free software users. Don't forget to donate to any project (any amount is valid> 5,;).
After struggling and reading for a day I found it myself, but when I published I find that several blogs that previously did not give the answer now already have it, or a similar answer. Wow !!!… Maybe I'll publish it for what it's worth.
