EndeavorOS 2020.07.15 has already been released, know its changes and news

Recientemente the new edition "EndeavorOS 2020.07.15" was published which comes with the Linux Kernel 5.7, Firefox 78.0.2, installer improvements, bug fixes and many other things.

For those unfamiliar with EndeavorOS you should know that this is a Linux distribution that replaced the Antergos distribution, whose development was discontinued in May 2019 due to lack of free time for the remaining managers to keep the project at the proper level.

Although EndeavorOS largely pursues the same goals as Antergos, EndeavorOS wants to do its thing. The installation is supposed to bring an on-board system in a simple way, with the help of the Calamares installer, giving the user an experience as close to Arch as possible. This also means that only a basic system is installed and its Design is the responsibility of the user.

The distribution offers a simple installer to install Arch Linux base environment with default Xfce desktop and the ability to install one of 9 typical desks based on i3-wm, Openbox, Mate, Cinnamon, GNOME, Deepin, Budgie and KDE.

Endeavor allows user to easily install Arch Linux with the required desktop in the way it was conceived in its template proposed by the developers of the selected desktop, without additional pre-installed programs.

Based on the familiar faces and the many new ones we were honored to welcome into our community last year, I think it is safe to say that we have been successful in that mission.

A year has passed with big learning curves and challenging goals that seemed unattainable, but we conquered them anyway and now it's time for EndeavorOS to re-enter the atmosphere and announce it a twin sonic boom to announce its landing back to the base .

EndeavorOS 2020.07.15 Key New Features

In this new version of the distribution as we mentioned at the beginning one of its novelties is the improvements in the installer and it is that in this new version eThe look and feel of the Calamares installer seems to have improved.

The first notable change in the installer is that this was updated to version 3.2.26 with which now the installer It has the GEOIP configuration option, so the locale can be initially configured according to the IP address, in addition to that fixed some display issues with time zones.

Moreover, structure includes a simple initial setup program and compact Welcome, through which you can perform operations such as clearing the cache of installed packages, installing alternative packages with the Linux kernel from Arch's repositories, adding buttons to execute arbitrary commands and scripts.

Regarding the system packages the new version included updated versions of the Linux kernel 5.7 with which many improvements are included such as the FS exFAT implementation, a bareudp module for creating UDP tunnels, pointer authentication based protection for ARM64, the ability to attach BPF programs to LSM controllers, a new implementation of Curve25519, a split lock listener, BPF support, among other.

We can also find the version of Table 20.1.3 which includes various compatibility improvements with the Vulkan API, various Intel ANV Vulkan driver fixes, as well as a wide variety of updates to the continuous integration infrastructure.

Another of the packages that was updated and stands out from the announcement is the new version of Firefox 78.0.2, which integrates the corrective version of the new branch that was launched a few days ago. Of this version what stands out is the possibility of restoring several closed windows, improvements for WebRender, changes in protection reports and also that it is an LTS version.

From the plans for the near future, the formation of an assembly for devices based on the ARM architecture is also noted.

One of so many distros, that when you least expect it, it disappears, because it takes a lot of effort to maintain a distro and in the end, being maintained by 4 cats, the time it absorbs them is so much that they end up abandoning it. I prefer to bet on the safe, on the mothers of all life. Debian. Fedora. Arch, Opensuse, etc, those will always be there.

The advantage of Endeavor is the easy installation of Arch and obtaining a pure arch. Arch is complex to install I did not succeed. Manjaro does not update the same and is different. If we like rolling, reread with programs and everything, very current, and we want Arch without complicating us because it is modular, without bloatware, it is a good option. Fill the void that Anteriorgos left.
