Enter Router and secure Cisco DPC2425 (Definitive)

Some of you will already know my Router. For those who don't, I present them:

cisco

The problem:

It turns out that this little guy makes quite a few problems when entering his configuration page. Especially having the ISP that I have. (Claro - Colombia) That restricts all these accesses.

It happens that this router by default brings a very simple username and password. (Leave both fields blank). But with my operator the following happens: When you do a hardreset it lets you enter. But just at the moment it synchronizes with the central, the access changes and until now I had not found the solution.

The solution.

As is normal ... I dedicated myself to looking for the password left and right to access my router. (Although I had already been capable before. A Firmware update had left me without access again, Patching the previous access). Most of the options had no effect. Until I found a very interesting password.

This password was interesting because although it did not allow me to access completely, the error was different. As if it did not have permissions to edit but to access.

The password is: Uq-4GIt3M  (with the user "admin")

The error when using this password was:

Clear Cisco Error

This error was very different from the classic one: Incorrect username and password.

I began to try many things and in the end I began to think: «What if the router has restricted access to the LAN IP's that are inside it? (Something similar to what happens with UNE routers that only allow access to a single specific LAN IP)

I then gave myself the task of testing it.

As?

Clear.! A PROXY !.  For this I tried TOR, with Web Proxy's And it really works with anyone. The steps are very simple.

You access your WAN IP from the proxy. (To see IP in linux:  curl ifconfig.me ) Or you can also use these pages of "what is my ip" Etc .. They add port 8080

Example: 181.51.144.85:8080

It asks you for username and password.

User: admin

Password: Uq-4GIt3M

index22

WIN. !!!

This in turn is a serious security problem. Since anyone can access a router of these remotely and do what they want. LITERALLY

"PATCH"

Anyone would think that the most normal thing would be to change the password. YES. Well, I have tried and he says he has changed it "satisfactorily." But it doesn't really do anything

So let's block remote access.

Let's look where it says:

adv settings

We give you where it says  OPTIONS

options

We deactivate the option of:  Remote Configuration Management

We apply and Done. !!!!

Cheers.!!

Compadre, before publishing an article I advise you to check your spelling, it is not recorded, it is serious, and well interesting your discovery, but I prefer to use my own Router with modified firmware, either OpenWRT or DD-WRT, a hug.

    1.    giskard said

The router he is talking about is the one provided by the internet provider. It is not replaceable for one bought outside. And if luckily you manage to put a modified firmware into it, you stay offline and Claro Colombia will probably charge you for a new one,

      1.    Cocolium said

Exactly that can happen, the truth is that I have no idea about that, but in any case you can still buy one of the routers in the store and plug it into one of the eth ports of the device in question and ask the ISP to discard it WiFi function because you don't need it that simple, I think the best thing is always to cut your losses, right?

        1.    eliotime3000 said

I use my TP-Link router with Wi-Fi, since the router is on the 2nd. floor and my PC is on the 1st, so I use my smartphone as a Wi-Fi antenna.

Therefore, I will be saving for my USB Wi-Fi antenna so that I do not have to force my smartphone and thus not damage it too much.

          1.    Cocolium said

Super, look at my ISP doing some bullshit that disables the WiFi for a while, and that was the reason why I retired my Cisco-Linksys with DD-WRT and bought a TP-Link and obviously I put the same firmware and I have the Same problem, the Cisco is now a repeater for TV in the living room, and it is going fancy.

        2.    giskard said

They do not deactivate it. I've already fought too much with those people. The most I did was that they put it in WPA2 (they come in WEP by default) and I put a good key to release. Next I removed the antenna from the router. And yes, I have my own router in the middle, but it's mad that they give you something for what you pay and don't let you control it.

          1.    Cocolium said

Well jho / & / & %% & a shame that such services are provided in other countries, and even worse the mediocrity of the use of WEP, and I suppose they do that for the freaks who use Mac hahahaha and that's what not knowing how to configure the router well, a shame.

          2.    eliotime3000 said

Easy: If your router has MAC address filtering, add the MAC addresses of your PC and any other Wi-Fi device, and combined with your WPA2 key, and so you have really secured your Wi-Fi router without removing the Wi-Fi antenna. Fi. In case you don't have a Wi-Fi device, you remove the antenna and continue using your router without Wi-Fi.

If you add the MAC address filter, you get in the way of those individuals who like to use Beini or BackTrack to steal other people's Wi-Fi signal.

    2.    eliotime3000 said

Better yet, turn on the spell checker feature on your Iceweasel Aurora.

      1.    Cocolium said

        Something like that.

The truth is that the fame Cisco routers leave a lot to be desired, especially in terms of hardware / software in relation to price. I stick with the TP-Links which I think are the best in terms of value for money, which work very well, which carry Linux and can be modified with other Linux-based firmwares such as OpenWRT and DD-WRT.

    1.    sanhuesoft said

That's right, I use a TP-Link WR740N with OpenWRT and it works quite well. The only "problem" I've had so far has been increasing the number of torrent connections, where the router hangs and needs to be restarted. Beyond that, it works very well, and I have had it for about 2 years.

      1.    kike said

That router is owned by a relative of mine, but keep in mind that to be the low-end of TP-Link it gives a thousand turns to many other mid / high-end routers from other brands, in addition to having good Wi-Fi coverage, a web menu with many options and access to Linux terminal by telnet. In my case I have the TP-Link W8970 and the truth is that I have no problems of any kind, where I never turn it off or restart it, it is always running and working perfectly.

        1.    sanhuesoft said

Yes, it is much cheaper than any Cisco / Linksys and in performance they are quite similar. A couple of weeks ago I decided to install the OpenWRT firmware on it for testing and it turned out to work very well.

  3.   José Torres said

But with this you will not also be blocked from accessing, since by the lan ip you can not?

Greetings @Jlcmux. I have an Ubee (with Claro / co) and I have the same problem. It's annoying that if you pay for a pod, they have them who are monitoring your connection. For not leaving, will you know the password for my model to see if I try your solution? Thanks in advance.

    1.    @Jlcmux said

No idea. Try the same procedure to see how.

      1.    giskard said

        It doesn't work 🙁

    2.    Victor Z said

I also have an Ubee (Cablecom-Mexico) in username: admin and password: cableroot

And you will have all the configuration at hand, of course, if your Ubee is a cable-modem.

Hi. Very good idea, but I think of course it blocked remote access from some IPs, because with web proxy it cannot connect and also the dog 8080 is blocked. Any idea which ip the modem allows to receive

    1.    phavyo said

Hi Luis F, I had the same problem with Web Proxy, apparently the mode detects that it is still inside the network, I tried from a distant network with the assigned dynamic IP and it worked as mentioned in the article.

      Greetings.

I have the same problem. Neither from other houses, nor with the 3G connection, nor from other cities with other operators can I enter. Insurance is restricted to their remote assistance IPs

Tonight I try to see if it works for me with my Cisco modem. I have to configure an IP camera and from what I read I have to unblock some ports.
I also found in a forum, the following information to see which one works for me:
For Claro Colombia they can deal with 192.168.0.1, the same as 192.168.100.1 in the user they put home and the password or password Uq-4GIt3M. and ready

  16.   Diego said

I couldn't at the beginning, I was not allowed access to advanced settings from any pc, but strangely it worked for me from my android, using the Dolphin Browser browser only with the address of the Router. (Claro Colombia)
    Hopefully it will serve you.

  17.   AndresR said

Do you know what procedure would be used to access a modem of these but from UNE?
Or if I do a hard reset, would something happen to the configuration of the telephone line (also managed by this modem)

  18.   Bladibuddies said

I do not understand the proxy, I have looked for proxies and I get ... there I put my default gateway and mine is 10.5.0.1, then it does not give me ... Then I tried to put 10.5.0.1:8080 and it did not give me either, if it worked for me password and username but I still do not have access to the "setup" function
Please answer me… I would be very grateful if I manage to edit the setup for my minecraft server 😀

    1.    Bladibuddies said

Just to clarify ... My router or modem (whatever they are called) xD is clear ...

Hello, how are you colleagues, I have a Cisco DPC2425 cable modem of course, before I had a Movistar router (OBSERVE), so I decided to put it as a repeater for the wifi signal, configure everything, gateway changed, dhcp disabled, the weird thing is When connecting the watch to the Cisco, the latter begins to restart and only the wireless network is deconfigured.

    Hola!

Is it possible to configure telephony parameters for this modem?
I have a Cisco DPC2425 modem with the analog ports connected to a telephone exchange. The problem occurs because the modem does not recognize the cut-off tones (onhook) and the calls remain active occupying the line.
