Evolve OS: Another project from the hand of Ikey Doherty

It is still not clear to me why Ikey doherty left an entire Community aside by abandoning the project SolusOS, although I understand that his allegation was "the lack of manpower."

But if we look towards ShirtSo we can see that obviously there is something wrong with that excuse.

The point is that our friend Ikey has launched into a new project called evolve OS, with which to try to create a distribution based on openSUSE with a new (other) fork of GNOME-Shell called budgie desktop that if they ask me, try to copy Chrome OS.

Evolve OS

In the words of Ikey himself:

It should be perfectly clear that there are only EvolveOS and Budgie Desktop for experimentation, with the purpose of discovering / developing new techniques and ideas, with the aim of integrating into larger projects, such as openSUSE, GNOME, etc.

Or that's where the shots go.

Another minimalist Desktop Environment that at the moment lacks many options, which is aimed at users who want things simple and therefore very basic, which is clearly seen in the following screenshots.

evolveOS2

evolveOS3

evolveOS4

evolveOS5

In fact, ArchLinux users can experiment by installing Budgie from the AUR:

yaourt -S budgie-desktop-git

And users of Fedora / openSUSE via OBS.

Will it be worth the effort? It remains to be seen, although I wish Ikey Doherty all the luck in the world, given the background, I personally don't trust anything he has on his hands.

Good morning, I have a point of view, correct me if I'm wrong.
From Doherty I have this distro: SolusOS-2-A7 I found it in linux23, it is likely that Doherty has been pressured by the American government to close his project for violating patents, as happened with Lindows and later with Xandros.
Apparently Bill has great influence in the technology market, we must remember that Bill sued the developer of Lindows and even wanted to load Ubuntu.
    Best regards

Pressured by the government? Why? More important distributions are there, with their codecs and their proprietary things .. 🙂

Come on, it's not worth mentioning RT ... those are as objective and neutral as I am a cosmonaut 😀

I read RT and I also read you, and I find you both very good

It sounds a lot like conspiracy to me

Naaa, stop the Jewish Masonic conspiracies, what happens to doherty is that he is a developer who starts a thousand things and does not finish any xd

Ikey Doherty with SolusOS, has achieved what no one else in a long time, make a completely unknown distribution, in a couple of years, become the focus of attention around the GNU / Linux world.

My idea is that the Debian code base was too much to support and maintain. That with Open Suse you have tools like Suse Studio that facilitate much of the work.

However, the doubt remains! Since with SolusOS I do not handle public relations in the best way, as I began to implement it, it did not leave a good taste in my mouth, there were no goodbyes, no conciliation, or the search for private invention Not even the opinion of the community, a professional who does not defend his project is not to be trusted.

Ikey has shown that he can disappoint his public-client and regain their trust will be a tough road.

The wasted space between the title bar and the menu bar is nonsense!

For example we have KaOS ...
Of course, as it is the same to take a project from an OS without making a new proposal for a desktop and software suitable for it to a project from an OS that does, well, yes, Ikey's is inexplicable that it is justified that it had no support .

I agree with Elav, Ikey threw the shit (forgive me the word) all credibility with his past actions, I see it as a deception to the community, from which, incidentally, he received donations.

Point and aside, there is no doubt that this man has a lot of talent and it is regrettable that he does not use it contributing to a consolidated project, such as Xfce or Lxde.

I think it's because of some ego, it's brilliant, but it doesn't take advantage of it with a sense of community.

They are both right, but sometimes one demands more than what corresponds and we end up a little more than imposing on which projects a developer should work on, since that decision only corresponds to him according to his personal motivations.

The truth is I am not very confident, he said that he would not continue with SolusOS because it was a lot of work and I don't know what else, and now he starts a new project being that he could have continued with SolusOS or at least in the desktop environment in which he was working.

He is a brilliant uncle Ikey Doherty; but I don't trust a hair of this man.

What requirements does this new system demand?
Will it be too heavy for relatively old equipment? (5 years).

I see it similar to cyanammon that is more developed.
