FBReader: Lightweight reader for ebook files on Linux

Before we have talked about Caliber, that great application that is used for much more than just reading ebook files (it also helps us to manage our library, etc), however, sometimes we do not need a whole 'suite' when in reality a simple application is enough , and this is where it comes in FBReader.

As Wikipedia says:

FBReader is a free and open source e-book reader for GNU / Linux, Microsoft Windows, and others.

It was originally written for Sharp Zaurus and currently works on many other mobile devices, such as Tablet PCs, Internet tablets or desktop computers. A trial version of FBReaderJ (the fork of Java) for Google Android was released on April 13, 2008.

Supported formats include EPUB, FictionBook, HTML, plucker, PalmDoc, zTxt, TCR, CHM, RTF, OEB, DRM-free mobipocket, and plain text.

To install this program in our distro let's install the package freader.

If they use ArchLinux or derivatives:

sudo pacman -S fbreader

In case they use Debian, Ubuntu or derivatives:

sudo apt-get install fbreader

Then we can find it through the applications menu by Office, here is a screenshot:

With FBReader we have several options, such as Add Book to the Library, check our Library or Library, it automatically saves us by the page that we are reading in the book, etc.

FBReader It is a simple application but that does not mean that it is not useful to us, I do not want to install Caliber and everything that it brings, my father likes to download books from internet sites (livable.es, ebookee.org, etc) and then catalog and organize them, but I'm not so interested, I sort and organize them in folders, not with applications for it 🙂

To this day I have used Okular (KDE PDF viewer that opens almost any document) but, FBReader is not a bad alternative by any means, it does exactly what I want, neither more nor less.

regards

Does anyone know how to increase the font of an epub with Okular and that it does not keep the previous number of pages, not seeing the last pages of the document?

What if paragraph separation and line spacing can be edited?

Either I'm very clumsy or Okular leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to reading epubs ...

Actually, Okular is for viewing almost any type of file, but it IS NOT an ebook reader; Come on, it helps you in a hurry, but if you are addicted to reading, it will leave you very little satisfied.

This is not in the official repo of the distro, is it?

Excellent eBook reader, supports ePub, FB2, Mobi and many more. Obviously, save the page where you stay when closing the program, up to 4 books at a time, I think. I use it on my Android tablet and its night mode is great for saving energy and seeing in daylight.
You also have it for many platforms, Linux, Windows, Android, etc.
    Fantastic and light program.

There are some brands of tablets that include it by default, since I have seen it on occasion with friends and on public transport.

Yes. Lightweight and simply does what I want. I've been using it for a year, and I even redecorated it with an icon pack that I found in gnome-look

Good ebook reader, but linux has better readers, we do not have to fall into the commercial programs of windows and android but if you already have windows on the pc a good solution is to put a dual boot operating system on windows there are many guides, here I leave a https://tabletsdualboot.com/%f0%9f%94%b7convierte-pc-dual-boot%f0%9f%94%b7/
