Fifth: A light and fast browser based on Opera

We add to Fifth to the long list of web browsers that we have tested, this time it is a light and fast browser based on Opera which is free of trackers and has numerous features that many users are sure to like.

What is Fifth?

It's a light and fast open source browser based on Opera, developed using c ++, which uses the technologies of FLTK y web kit. This browser has exclusive features for Linux users and is distributed under the GPLv3 license.

The browser gives us total control of its functionalities, with a fairly stable source code and free of trackers, advertising or malicious code. In the same way, it gives us the possibility to control and edit the CSS AND JS of any web page in real time.

This browser prevents the execution of Flash o WebGL By default, it has excellent handling of SSL certificates and adequate memory management.

We can appreciate the graphical characteristics of this browser through the following gallery:

How to download Fifth?

We can download the latest version of this light and fast browser based on Opera from here.

It is worth noting that for the browser to function properly the following dependencies must be met:

  • zlib, png, jpeg
  • libxslt, libxml2
  • sqlite3
  • freetype fontconfig cairo
  • openssl> = 0.9.8k
  • curl
  • icu and harfbuzz
  • FLTK> = 1.3.3
  • liburlmatch
  • physfs

Most of these packages are found in the official repositories of the most popular distros, once we have installed these dependencies we proceed to install and enjoy Fifth.

By way of conclusion I can say that it is a browser that has a very nice integration with Linux, but unfortunately it is not so revolutionary as to supply my two favorite browsers mozilla firefox and chrome. Now, Opera users will surely be more enchanted with it because, apart from the core of the main browser, quite interesting functionalities are added.
